About this audiobook

When a magnitude 7.8 earthquake hits California, Ruby is trapped underneath the remains of a collapsed laundromat with Charlie, a boy she’d first spoken to moments before. She can’t move or see
anything beyond the rubble that covers her, but she’s sure someone will come save them soon. As the hours and days tick by, Ruby only has Charlie’s voice and her memories to keep her company.

She thinks of her mom, who she’d fought with before she left for the laundromat.

And her friend Mila, who’s spiraling more and more out of control.

And her boyfriend, Leo.

And her water polo team.

And the future she’d planned out for herself, which may all be lost in the rubble.

Tense, heartstopping, and emotionally complex, Aftershocks is a story about hope, love, and staying alive against the odds.

Aftershocks by Marisa Reinhardt was a wonderful, fairly quick read! I love stories that are mostly man v nature and this didn't disappoint. Going through events like these force characters to mature or die. These types of events can really shift perspectives. I happen to live in California, and this showcases in detail, my worst nightmare.I felt trapped with Ruby in the rubble, and my own demophobia was triggered several times. This story covers roughly a week after one of California's more devastating quakes, and follows Ruby. Through it all, Ruby reveals bits and pieces of her past, as does fellow trapped laundromat patron Caleb. It continues with Ruby being rescued, being in hospital, and dealing with earthquake aftermath. The story was well written, and flowed smoothly. Any situation Ruby was in, I felt right there with her. Highly recommended, especially if you enjoy man Vs nature stories!
