About this audiobook

At twenty-eight, Margaret Dashwood is considered by many to be hopelessly past marriageable age. As a girl, she watched her sisters suffer from love and loss, and as a young woman, she found that few gentleman could keep up with her, let alone surprise her. She is content living in a modest cottage with her mother, reading and writing and walking the countryside.

Margaret has one close friend, Rupert, with whom she shares a passion for Shakespeare. He is planning to rent a cottage near her house for is sabbatical year, and they will work on a book together. But when at last he arrives, he brings his new wife, Cecelia. And Cecelia's closest cousin is none other than John Willoughby, who broke Margaret's sister's heart fifteen years before but whom Margaret has always secretly admired. Margaret's friendship with Rupert is tested to its limits as she navigates the challenges and temptations of attraction, trying to answer the question for herself: What is love?

A fascinating sequel to Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility, The Other Dashwood Sister explores what true partnership means, and whether marriage is even possible for a brilliant and independent woman who wants to stay that way.

The story was interesting enough but it clearly written from a modern point of view. I would have enjoyed it more if the reader didn't have such a poor British accent. It was very off putting at some points.

Boring writing. Too much repetition. Putting modern sensibility into Historical Romance doesn't work.

Too much insignificant detail - just filling pages. Austin and Heyer much more enjoyable.

Nice, but too "logical". I am not a very big fan!

A thorough exploration of what love can look like and feel like from a rather academically inclined young woman. It’s a unique story that I really enjoyed. It also had me feel both frustrated and satisfied - both things that I enjoy as a reader. A bit too slow for me at times but then again this might suit the literary setting and time period better.

The sing-song narration just about did me in. I finally gave up.

The Narrator was very slow and unnatural not easy to listen to for me, even if the book was good, please authors get the right narrator to bring your wonderful books to life, not kill it.

Miranda Markwell has reimagined the third sister in Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility as an honest, independent feminist who finally makes the right choice in selecting her husband. A charming story.

So far the story is okay (2 chapters in). The narrator reads very slow. But when sped up it is better.
(5 chapters in) Okay I tried. But the narrator makes this story unendurable. I can't finish the story. The narrator literally puts me to sleep. I've had the go back multiple times listening to the same chapter becuase I had been bored to sleep again. Speeding it up often sounds unusual and listening at the slow pace is completely unbearable.

Typical romance for the time peroid. Very uneventful, but good listening.

A good story, even though I early figured out how it was going to end. The reader did an excellent job.

Not the narrator. I think it’s a clever story piggy backing on Austin. Her 19 th century feminism is a bit heavy handed, but not too bad. Would the narration feel better among listeners not American, who listen too carefully for the whiff of pretentious language? I don’t know, but it certainly seems to be mentioned not with admiration from most reviews.
I recommend since it’s easy to try these books without even casually spending another penny, just try it. You’ve been prepared. It’s worth a listen.

this story was ok. I did like the strong female character who lived back in the 1800’s. The author developed the main characters well.

Not the greatest but well written. The voice of the reader got to me a bit.

An entertaining wrap up of the loose ends in Sense and Sensibility. I would have enjoyed it more but for the narrator's irritating habit of elongating the vowel of the last word in most sentences.

The narrators voice was very “sing-songy”. The story might be good but I couldn’t suffer the narrator any longer.

I enjoyed the storyline and writing Very much which helped me ENDURE the inconsistent and well, in my view, rubbish attempt at an English accent. To be fair 49% acceptable, but so many errors of pronunciation...
The story though was truly engaging so I just had to wince frequently and (barely) grin and bear it. Grrrrrrrrr! Will not hear another book read by her again!

I couldn’t get past the first chapter. The narration is awful and felt like an extended BBC news report on boring local politics.

Beautifully narrated. Also, the audio was clear and loud enough to hear easily. Thank you. P.S. very enjoyable characters and story. Will definitely read more of Miranda’s books.

What a slow burn love stores that never quite picks up. I knew from the beginning what the outcome would be, but the process was extremely clinical. So much so that it was almost a struggle to see this book through. I didn’t quite appreciate the narrator’s voice on this one either. Her voice is very melodic, but it was a bit grating. Still, it fit the character
