      IAM A SELF-TAUGHT ARTIST. I started drawing and painting at a very young age. There are seven siblings in my family; our parents encouraged each of us to be individuals and gave us total support for our chosen avenues. I wanted to be an artist. I took many classes in my youth to help develop my talent and have always been creating in one form or another.

      My sisters and I were taught to sew by making clothes for our dolls and later for ourselves—we had very colorful wardrobes. In high school my electives were chosen from the art courses: jewelry making, calligraphy, painting, and drawing. I was even the set designer for most of our class productions, painting huge sets and enjoying every moment of it. Then I got hooked on quilting and made many traditional quilts before I met Michael James. He suggested I use my knowledge of quilt construction and my talent for art to create art quilts. What a turning point in my life! I focused on designing my own work. I also took art
