      Entertaining enough but not one of Janet Evanovich's best books.

      Race cars---cars in general---are not my thing. This feels more like a procedural than a mystery, the sidekicks are very much like Stephanie Plum's sidekicks and the McGuffin is a some sort of computer chip thing that I didn't quite understand---not that this is a big problem.

      Cheating may not be kosher, but when a few tenths of a second can mean the difference between millions and second place, it's still part of the game, especially in NASCAR. Barney knows there's something fishy about the way the Huevo team's been winning races - she just can't prove it. Not, that is, until proof drops right into her hands. Of course, it comes packaged with grand theft auto, a couple of corpses, and a very angry bunch of leg-breakers.Hooker, Barney and Beans, not to mention Felicia and Rosa are a riot, and it's good to see them back. Now if only they'd get another outing!

      I enjoyed this book in that it was funny and it was a typical Evanovich book. There was so much that was similar to the Stephanie Plum books that I couldn't help comparing the whole time I was reading it. Both have a big, clumsy dog. Both have love interests that are dangerous and maybe not so good for them. Both have crazy side-kick-type characters. Plum has Grandma Mazur, Lula, and Connie. Barney has Rosa and Felicia. It got to the point where I started to get annoyed.

      Bottom line, the book was funny and entertaining. I'm not sorry that I read it, I just wish it was further away from the Stephanie Plum series.

      Caution: This review contains a spoiler. I enjoyed this book. The scenes with the dog Beans made me laugh out loud. But I never really understood what the chip did. And, if it is cheating, why are Hooker and Alex going to use it?

      Ok, so maybe the situations are a bit implausible, but I do adore Evanovich's style and crazy characters. Barney (Alex) and NASCAR guy (Sam) are at it again. Barney is a spotter for Sam's team. They're not together because he was doing a sales clerk, but she's still working with him. Another spotter (Gobbles) gets in a tight spot and then, well, in typical Evanovich fashion - everything falls apart. Barney and Sam hijack a car hauler of a competitor, rescue Gobbles, chop up two cars, find something suspicious and possibly illegal and find a dead body which Sam's St. Bernard, Beans, takes a bite. In the process of dumping the truck, Beans gets left behind and the bad guys are on to Barney and Sam. Of course they end up in Miami and Rosa and Felicia make an appearance. When a bad guy kidnaps a person, especially a foreign bad guy, I don't think they just threaten to chop off their fingers. I don't think henchmen get multilple chances to get it right, but to make the story more interesting - these guys do. This book besides being funny has enough suspense to make me worry that something bad is going to happen and someone is going to die. I highly recommend the Alex Barnaby series.

      This is the second book in her Metro Girl series and I thoughtit was better than the first one was. The characters seemed to fit theirown skins better this time around somehow, and I wasn't distracted with hercalling Sam "Nascar Guy" this time (which I greatly appreciated). I'm not aracing fan AT ALL but I don't think you have to be to enjoy this particularbook. Main character Alexandra Barnaby (or Barney to her friends) isstarting to take flesh and become her own character and didn't come offfeeling like Stephanie Plum in Florida at the race track. She's somewhatbrighter and sharper and seems to have more savvy in this book. It's stilla fun read, I thought. I'll give it a 4.

      Barney, Hooker, and friends are back, tearing up the race track, and tearing up the town! The action takes place in a wild race around Southern Florida and Concord, North Carolina, home of NASCAR. Barney and Hooker "borrow" a NASCAR trailer to save a friend, only to discover that in addition to the two race cars and their friend Gobbles in the back, there's also a naked dead man wrapped in plastic! And that's not all... turns out the cars house their own secrets as well.Now on the run from a couple of hit men, the head of R&D at Huevo Industries, and the police for questioning on a murder they didn't commit, Barney and Hooker team up with old pals Felicia and Rosa to clear their names, and try to figure out what's going down in downtown!This was another great Evanovich read which I enjoyed just as much as its predecessor Metro Girl. It had a lot of laugh-out-loud moments, and you're left wondering just what's happening right up until the very end.

      Likeable, but not as laugh-out-loud funny as the early Stephanie Plum books. At least when Evanovich writes about NASCAR, she's got something more interesting to talk about than track decking and how many races Dale Earnhardt won (see St. Dale,/i>; better yet, don't).

      Metro Girl sequel and not as good as Evanovich's numeric series. Setting is the NASCAR circuit with a stolen microchip in the gear handle that leads to discovered dead bodies. Overly long section on feeding the dog prunes to have him "poop" the swallowed microchip out.

      Follow up to Metro Girl. Lots of action, but I expected a little more relationship stuff between Barney & Hooker. Absolutely fun. A bit more outrageous, bordering on unbelievable, in a few places.

      Although I enjoyed the book, I felt maybe it wasn't as good as the first. From my library, you can see I am a huge fan but thought maybe the 'mishaps' were a little too over the top (if that is possible).

      As a fan of the Stephanie Plum novels, Janet Evanovich's "other" novels don't usually hold my attention as much. Most of the time they get bogged down in sappy romance, which is not why I enjoy Evanovich's writing style. In this one, she uses the wit and sarcasm she usually reserves for Stephanie Plum in a character that would probably be friends with Stephanie Plum. A great, fast read - held my attention all the way through. I'll definitely be checking out the others in this series.

      Cardboard characters, a plot that is VERY hard to believe, but well written, lots of humour, not too silly. So: nice fluff. Nothing special, but good enough entertainment when more wholesome reading is a bit too much.

      I think I'm about done with Janet Evanovich. I like the humorous bits but those, and the discontinuities, are getting "old" for me.
