- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Karen Kingsbury is best known for her best-selling contemporary Christian fiction for adults, but she is also making a name for herself in the realm of children’s fiction. Let’s Have a Daddy Day is the latest in a loosely organized series of children’s titles celebrating family togetherness in rhyme. The story uses simple, warm text to follow a father and his two children (one a boy, the other a girl) in a day devoted purely to quality time together in the outdoors. My young children absolutely soaked in the atmosphere of intentional bonding time, and were soon asking their own Dad for a “Daddy Day”, before asking to read the book again, and again! This may be a difficult book for children whose fathers work away from home much of the time or who serve overseas, as it is devoted only to spending time with dad. Parents may also wonder if they can expect any overt faith messages, as this title is published by Zonderkidz. Surprisingly, there are no mentions about Jesus, God, or faith, just a simple celebration of family togetherness.Dan Andreasen’s lovely, action filled illustrations are rendered in a textured, muted palette and drew my children right into the story. All in all, this is a truly lovely book that has reminded my children of how much they enjoy spending time with their own father in outside pursuits.Reviewed at quiverfullfamily.com
