INTRODUCTION
THE SPECIES THEORY
Life’s Guidebook
sounds like quite a claim, doesn’t it? But I promise you, after I explain the unique perspective I’ve gained through the sequence of events in my life, and how it’s helped cure
me, I know you too can benefit and have the life you’ve always dreamed of. When you apply **The Species Theory to any question you have in the world, you will see the answer. It is always right in front of our faces, and yet somehow we fail to recognize it. I will teach you how to use it. It is ridiculously easy. But first, you have to understand HOW I came upon it.
YOU CAN BE HAPPY
I will start at the beginning, and you too can be a reformed know-it-all. Let’s face it, who doesn’t want to be more likeable, have more friends, get further in their job, be more compassionate, be a better parent, stop spending too much money, drink less, quit smoking, end bullying, accept situations we cannot change like gay marriage, abortion, understand different religions, be more open minded and less envious, bottom line: BE HAPPY.
Chapter 1
14 YEARS OF BEHAVIORAL RESEARCH
Since 1999, I have been analyzing and explaining wordless behavior for a living. As an Equine Professional, I train horses and the people who want to learn how to ride them. Also, prior to becoming a professional horse trainer, rider, and teacher, I grew up riding and competing on my personal horses. Basically I’ve had a ton of practice, almost 40 years, at always being right. My way has always been the best way, or so I thought. I am an expert at reacting to wordless behavior. This is a good thing when I can then analyze and change it, to train the horses to jump, and the people who want to be able to stay on them while they do. I’ve ultimately realized that this particular talent is not exactly helpful when applied to normal, everyday life….because humans CAN speak. .)
Anyhow, this was merely the beginning of my revelation….
As I was going about my business one day, my kids were six and three, it dawned on me that I was trying to train
them in the same way I train my animals. By clapping to distract from the bad behavior, and then yelling or spanking to discipline the bad behavior, by going back and having them repeat it the correct way to ingrain the good behavior. Suddenly my son clapped back… and asked WHY
? I was just then reminded that they had intelligent human brains and that they could actually speak. My whole world just shifted on its axis. I also began noticing that my 6 year-old son started disciplining my 3 year-old daughter in just the same manner, and here you have the perpetuation of every behavioral cycle in every family in history.
Chapter 2
YOU ARE A KID UNTIL YOU HAVE KIDS AND THEN YOU ARE A PARENT
First of all, let me just say that my kids, and my desperate need to be a good parent, saved my life. For the first time ever, I loved someone more than myself. Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t go thru my first 40 years of life thinking that I was better than anyone else, or not loving my parents, sister, and husband. But it’s a different kind of love, and it hit me square in the face. Talk about an earth-shattering wake-up call, it completely changed my personality and changed the world as I knew it.
I do know that I am obviously not the first parent to notice this, my wise mother-in-law has a famous quote from when my husband and I had our first child, You’ll never know what it’s truly like to be able to step in front of a bus for someone until you have a child.
A big part of my revelation after having kids is that I discovered You Are A Kid until you have kids and then You Are A Parent. Which opened my eyes to the fact that it applies to Everyone. Every person on this planet is either A Kid or A Parent, period. And it really made me like people for the first time in my life. Not that I disliked people in general or was ever rude or mean, I just existed in my personal space. My little bubble would become annoyed at random people in traffic, lines, or restaurants, and on airplanes with screamy kids. So, first and foremost, I realized that everyone just wants to be loved by their parents and have their approval. Doesn’t matter what age. I still do and I’m 40 for crying out loud. It gave me perspective as a parent that all people are just kids who want to be understood, and since I have unconditional love for my kids it gave me the ability to have unconditional understanding for the general public. Seriously. Trust me you will get it. Because…..
Chapter 3
THE ROOT OF YOUR PERSONALITY IS A PHYSICAL THING
I know I am not the first person on earth to recognize that certain kids take after certain parents, but for me this was mind-blowing. Since I have had the last 14 years to practice analyzing behavior
