Secrets of Successful Link Building - Trevor Dumbleton

    Introduction

Link building is one of the most important tools you have at your disposal to increase the importance of your website.

In an ideal world, links to good sites would just happen. And Google would prefer that to be the case.

But we're in the real world. So link building is necessary.

According to all their published details, Google say that you can't be penalized for links pointing to your site. Which sounds fair, otherwise your competitors would just gang up on you and send your site to oblivion.

All kinds of things are recognized as links. Most of us concentrate on hyperlinked (usually blue underlined) links but it's generally thought that Google also counts plain text links - ones that haven't been hyperlinked for whatever reason. Certainly Firefox and Chrome browsers treat plain text links as regular ones - you can test this by highlighting the next one you find and right clicking your mouse. So it would be surprising if Google didn't do the same.

We'll start by looking at links in general so that you have an overview of what you're looking for.

Then we'll examine various link building methods that work and see how well they work.

Finally, we'll take a look at Fiverr.com which can be a good way to pay someone else a small amount of money to help build your links (but can also be a minefield for the unwary).

There are quite a few sites I've referenced in this report - you can find clickable links to them on the support page I've created at:

    Give Google What They Want

Before we begin talking about link building, it's important to make sure that your site is in a fit state to receive the attention that link building gets it.

Which is why this section is entitled Give Google What They Want.

This may sound self evident but a surprising number of sites ignore this and then wonder why Google doesn't show them in the search results.

Put simply, Google want good organic search results that their users find useful.

This helps stop surfers from changing search engines and allows Google to sell adverts (AdWords pay per click results) around the results.

Google stores a large amount of data and has to process it fast. So your on-page SEO needs to be good
