Matthew Freeman

Matthew freeman discovered he was a poet when he was ruined with love as a teenager. So began a cross-country journey that would leave him expelled from school and committed to an asylum, diagnosed with schizophrenia. After several years he was able to begin his recovery and finish his degree at Saint Louis University, where he was awarded the Montesi Prize. Uh oh, here comes the hate, humility,

    pent up because I didn’t sleep with her.

    I’m wronged and down, it’s difficult to dream;

    what’s worse—my genial spirits fail the grave

    and all but gone the hoboes fade away,

    the picaresque vagabonds gently gray,

    when suddenly the jabs at academe

    turn soft caresses from the sanguine lips

    too eager to deny the ragged trips

    we took.
