    Introduction

Go to any bookstore and odds are you’ll find at least one, if not a half-dozen, books with enlightenment as the subject matter. So what is enlightenment? It must be really difficult, most people think when they hear the term. I believe that enlightenment is totally misunderstood by most people in the West.

One of the most popular Western images of Enlightenment is the character Tyrone Power played in the 1946 movie The Razor’s Edge. It’s the story of a man who looks for fulfillment in India. Why do I think I can teach this subject when I’m not famous or have lots of followers? Because followers and fame are not necessary to have some experience with enlightenment. What is necessary is a sharp mental razor to separate the fat from the meat, or the truth from the illusions.

In my own experience enlightenment has come gradually to me.

I have meditated for over 30 years, but it wasn’t until I bought a really
