Introduction
You’re a trainer. Now what?
The students are ready and in place, and so are you. You have diligently prepared your material, the classroom and yourself. Chatter throughout the room ceases as you convey through your body language that class is about to begin. All eyes are on you, every face is revealing frank curiosity and expectation. And you begin to teach…
Even if you’ve never led a training class, you can probably imagine how momentous those first few seconds are. If you’re an experienced trainer, then you know. All the preparation and expectation, for both you and your students, have culminated in that moment when you call the class to order and begin your lesson.
Not to put too much pressure on you, but those first words you speak, your first few interactions, those just might make or break you….
The good news is, you can handle it. Untold thousands of other educators before you have risen to the challenge, and excelled. You can too.
This book, and the practice, study and experience that went into writing it, will help you. It will provide tips and tricks and proven methods to help you go beyond teaching effectively - it’ll show you how to teach excellently.
But the real solution comes from within. It comes from a recognition of the importance of training, from a heartfelt respect on your part for how your training is going to change the lives of your students. Embracing this serves to fire the motivation that leads to excellence.
This book will show you how to harness that motivation, and pair it with the tricks of the trade that have already been tested and proven by other excellent educators. The result will be you, confident and prepared, delivering training that rises to the level of excellence. And the result will be your students learning and retaining like never before, and bringing your excellence out of the classroom and into their personal and professional lives.
This book will show you how to harness that motivation
So now is the time to get engaged! The pages ahead will show you easy yet powerful methods to tap into your own motivation, to personalize and implement proven training methods, to spot and deal with potential training hazards, and to deliver training that’s nothing less than excellent. We’ll finish with some case studies, to demonstrate how our methods have performed in real-life training sessions, and with some text and Web further-reading resources so you can keep pursuing your standard of excellence.
We’ll start with an overview of some of the elements that create superior trainers, and superior training programs: Building rapport, finding joy in excellence, dealing with training challenges, and finding the motivational magic that makes all that possible. In later chapters we’ll be looking at all of those subjects in great depth, but for now let’s start to get familiarized with them…
