    About the Author

    Introduction

    Hi.

This is a book about making money writing online. It’s not a book about improving your writing although that might happen. This book could save you a lot of time and money. It’s designed to make you wiser, less frustrated and more successful. And by successful I mean as in making money.

I’ve been making money writing online for many years.

It’s just like the real world. There are some good deals, nice people, decent employers and genuine opportunities to make money.

But there are some crooks too; quite a few. And there are scams and cons as well as dumb and tight-fisted employers.

I’ve had first-hand experience with a lot of deals. I’ve kept notes of success stories, failures, disputes and reactions from individuals and companies.

This book tells you about real-life experiences. Only the names have been changed to stop the guilty from getting even.

You’ll learn about certain words in ads which set off alarm bells. You’ll learn how to deal with a tricky situation with an employer.

You’ll discover the reality of many deals, how some promises to make money are often not worth the page you may print them on and you’ll learn how to make successful bids.

I’ll tell you how I apply for jobs and why I’ve had such a high success rate.

Plus I’m happy to try and answer any of your online writing questions – without charge. writer@labyrinth.net.au

P.S. Here’s a dose of reality to start proceedings. Below is an application by an online writer hoping to win a job. The job was to edit a book in English written by someone who doesn’t have English as their first language. The bidder, a writer competing for work like me and possibly like you, has English as their first language. Here’s their job application.

Hi I can definetly assist you in you project and am very reliable. I am english so spelling, grammer, etc... not a problem. Please feel free to contact me.

Would you employ someone who sent you that job application?

    Chapter 1

Writing Online - what’s it all about?

This book is all about the Net, the Internet, the digital world or the information super highway. Not so long ago a writer wrote for a printed publication. Writers wrote novels, plays, articles, stories and the like which, hopefully, appeared in printed form – a book, a newspaper or magazine. Those publications still exist but now have a major competitor.

The Internet gives publishing power to the masses. You can publish your writing to the world. And the cost is very low.

You can write and self-publish far, far more easily now because of the ubiquitous World Wide Web. You can set up your own site and write and publish to your heart’s content. And it’s all relatively cheap and easy.

But will you make any money?

Writing’s fine and being published online is also fine. But will you make any money? Anyone can write and get published online but is there any financial reward for all your efforts? And if so, what type of reward? I mean earning peanuts is pretty much the same as earning nothing.

There are a lot of people writing online who make nothing and a lot more who make next to nothing. That’s fine if you’re not interested in cash. But if you want or need to make money from your writing, then that’s where the tips, tactics and traps revealed in this eBook become important.

This eBook is about making money from writing online; making an amount of money which is fair, reasonable and possibly even pretty damn good. Of course you might think ‘fair’ equates to a lot more or less than I do
