About this ebook
Written for the 8 to 13 year old crowd, this book examines teaching and protective spirits, spirit ancestors and power animals from mythologies from all over the world. Good, protective spirits and malevolent "evil spirits" from all six inhabited continents are discussed in an easy to read format. Forty three mythological types of protector spirits and twenty two individual types of evil spirits from around the world have their own separate entries. The young reader is offered seven activities to better understand the mythology, many focusing on the reader's hometown and what stories may be told about spirits there. A must have for true seekers of enlightenment and students of mythology alike!

Acknowledgements
Thank you to Karhu Milarch. Long ago, when we were surrounded and in a target rich environment,
he countered my bad feeling with, Nothing bad can happen to you when your Shaman is with you.
Miraculously enough, we are both still here.
A few years after that, Karhu introduced me to The Bear, starting a friendship and teaching relationship that has endured for well over a decade.
In the writing of this work, I have made extensive use of both Godchecker.com and Wikipedia.org. In every case, I have used these resources to seek out the names of spirit types, then gone in search of other resources. Thank you to the contributors on these sites.
Parental Advisory
In many of the cultures of our ancestors, people lived in an uncertain world that they believed was populated by a nightmare army of evil beings. This book lists a large number of demons and other evil spirit types. Some of them are recorded as being party to intolerable acts including cannibalism and murder. The author has removed references to certain other crimes, mostly crimes against women, by these spirit types. Parents should consider how to approach topics such as cannibalism with their children. The author recommends frank, explicit, nonjudgmental honesty.
Note
This work is a part of Spero’s A Child’s Eye View Series. It is also a companion of four other works in that series, A Child’s Eye View of Fair Folk, A Child’s Eye View of Aliens and Monsters, A Child’s Eye View of Vampires, and A Child’s Eye View of Ghosts and Hauntings. These four works share some entries; some information is duplicated. Many entities from mythology defy easy classification, and some of our unseen neighbors clearly fit into multiple classifications. With the exception of the entry for the word Skepticism,
every duplication was made after considerable soul-searching. No piece of information appears in two of these books unless it was deemed important to both books. However, these four books contain mostly unique information, and nothing is wasted by possessing all four books.

Bibliography
Introduction
Some years ago, I was in the forest in the company of friends, and I suffered a serious injury to my leg. My rip-stop pants tore, and muscle was visible through both of the tears in my skin and tissues. The pain was unbelievable. I may have said some Words of Power that are described as having four letters.
I remember that a black bear with a cinnamon-colored coat approached me and licked the wounds of my leg. I remember his smell, I remember the feeling of his tongue on my wounds and the surrounding skin. I don’t know where he went, but he wasn’t there when my friends splinted my leg and helped me to my feet…and let me tell you, that hurt more.
Later, as I related the story, my friends had three facts for me. First, none of them had seen (or smelled) a bear – and most of them had been in close proximity to me the entire time, from before the injury until we left the woods. Second, there were no bear tracks around where I had punctured my leg and fallen. Third, and most tellingly, the woods were outside the current range of bears – there weren’t any bears, of any kind, in those woods.
Over the next few years, I would dream of that bear often. The dreams that I remembered on waking always had that cinnamon colored bear in them.
A few more years would pass, and I spent some time living among friends in Virginia. While there, I attended a workshop on Shamanism given by my friend Karhu Milarch. In this workshop, we practiced a trancing technique known to Shamans* in cultures found around the world. In my trance, I saw
