About this ebook

Amber could not get over her husband Nick’s death after a boating accident. Her deepest wish was to have him back again. He was her life; her soul-mate and she lived for the moment they’d be together again.

Despite repeated attempts by her friends to get her back onto the dating scene, Amber felt she’d never love anyone but Nick. ... Until she met Liam.

But wishes can come true and on Christmas Eve she had an unexpected, ghostly visitor: her late husband.

Were the experiments her friends devised to prove ghosts were real actually a way to trick Amber into acknowledging he was a figment of her imagination?

Will it be Nick’s ghost who has the last laugh as he reveals that Amber isn’t the only one with skeletons in her closet?

Or did this ghost’s visits have a more sinister motive as his jealousy over Amber’s relationship with Liam begins to show? The more frequent his visits the more Amber realises her late husband was not the man she thought he was ...

Be careful what you wish for!

    That’s not supposed to happen!

Shane Morgan stepped back from the wall he had been scraping looking slightly aghast. His wife Paula and her best friend Amber, the owner of the house followed his lead. All looked slightly worried as Shane leaned forward and tentatively touched the wall again. I’m no expert but I’m sure it’s not supposed to wobble.

The look on his face could have been comical had the situation not been so serious. Amber suddenly had visions of her house caving in on top of them. Automatically she stepped forward and put her hand to the wall, feeling it move ever so slightly.

Maybe we shouldn’t have been so enthusiastic about taking all the plaster off, she suggested.

Maybe we should just wallpaper over it again and pretend we never noticed! The worried look on Paula’s face belied her careless words; of course she didn’t expect anyone to even consider the possibility.

Looks like you’re going to have to call in a professional, Shane advised Amber. This isn’t something we can ignore.

Amber sighed. What had begun as a simple decoration project was starting to prove more complicated and more expensive than anticipated. She should never have agreed to Paula’s offer of helping to transform her living room even though it had never been touched since Amber and Nick had bought the house four years ago.

Amber’s reluctance to make any changes had had a lot to do with her wanting to keep everything as it was when they’d been together. She still found it hard to accept the fact Nick was gone from her life for good. She still refused to use the four letter word that explained why she was now a widow. In her mind he hadn’t died he was just away for a while and one day their souls would meet again.

Shane was talking and as usual when she’d allowed her mind to drift back to the life she and Nick had shared, Amber hadn’t taken in a word that was being said. She’s off again, sighed Paula as she clicked her fingers in front of Amber’s face. Wake up daydreamer, there’s something serious going on back here on earth and there you are up in the clouds again.

So what have you decided between you I should do? Amber returned to the point in question.

Shane will get a builder to look at the wall, Paula explained patiently. It may have to come down but before it can be demolished, it will have to be checked out structurally.

But I don’t want it to come down. I like the living room the size it is now!

Even so, we still need professional advice. Shane touched the wall again with a little more confidence than before. It was quite scary to see it wobble as if it was made out of cardboard. I wonder what’s behind it, he mused.

The kitchen, surely? replied Amber. After all, that was the room next door. Access to the kitchen was through a passageway at the back of the house which was the length of the living room and kitchen combined. Shane disappeared through the door leading to that passageway and returned with a tape measure.

Amber watched in amazement as he and Paula began measuring the room and followed them into the kitchen. She only half listened as they added together the length of the two rooms and then compared this with the length of the passageway.

Three meters short! I knew it, declared Shane. There’s something else behind that wall.

How exciting, his wife declared. "What do you suppose it hides? … Just think it might be a hidden
