Laurie Sones
Laurie Sones was born in Essex, UK in 1950. His Christian upbringing coupled with a love of music led him to become a leading church choirboy. But this spiritual side was brought into sharp question when his mother, so much the driving force in his life, died before he had yet reached 18 years old. Laurie began a quest for wider philosophical and spiritual answers. Study has concentrated on two distinct areas: philosophy and healing. His first work, A Pocketful of Reasoning, illustrates not just depth and breadth of philosophical study but a capacity for practical suggestions the individual could follow. It represents over 40 years of ongoing experience, work and deliberation with the subject matter. The Principle of Gift, his second work, majors on creativity and the application of its fundamental principles for use in the lives of ordinary people. It also serves as a much shortened and simplified version of its predecessor with some common usage of material. 'Healing You: The New Keys' on the subject of self-healing is the author's third publication. The fourth, 'You Can Heal Yourself : The Seven Day Healing Programme', tackles the full practical side of self-healing and lays out a programme of exercises. The fifth work 'The Principle of Gift II: And When I Die?' reconnects to the original 'The Principle of Gift' concepts and deals directly with death and what may exist beyond it. Two more books are already in various stages of development. The aim is to produce a series of concise works (2/3 hour reads) under the broad umbrella of 'Realign Your Thinking, Realign Your Life'. INTRODUCTION
Being ill can leave you and those you love feeling helpless to act. This book challenges that feeling. Its 7 day healing programme is designed to show you what YOU can do to help yourself, and believe me, you can do a lot. It offers immediate aid to those in need and/or those caring for a sufferer. Exercises often appear without a working explanation being first offered. Action takes pride of place over 'philosophy'. The most important thing is for sufferers to start their healing immediately. All suggestions are based on a strong foundation and whilst some items may initially appear unusual, explanation of the way they work will be found later in the book as the reader works through it.
If you are reading this with a view to helping someone who is ill, that's wonderful, but it is VERY important to remember that control of any healing work MUST be left firmly in the hands of the sufferer themselves and not imposed on them, whatever the motive. So suggest, encourage, motivate, by all means, but never force. This subject will be covered further, later in the book.
CHAPTER 1: THE 7 DAY HEALING PROGRAMME
DAY 1 : Establishing a base
There's no time lose. Let's get started. We are going to open by asking some questions in an exercise called The Mirror. This will establish a base from which to work. Following that we will complete the first day with three more activities. During all exercises, try to let things happen naturally without either forcing or holding anything back. If your mind or body wants to tell you something, then it is a good idea to listen.
Exercise 1. The Mirror (part 1).
For this exercise you need a medium-sized mirror (big enough to see your whole face in), a few tissues (it can be emotional for some), a pen and paper and a comfortable and quiet spot to sit. One other thing that is critically needed: your self-honesty!
Essentially you need to be alone so that you can feel and express whatever you need to without holding anything back for fear of someone interrupting the process. You are going to ask yourself 3 questions. There are no right or wrong answers, only truth as you see it. Use a scale of 0 to 10 to quantify. 0 is a ‘definite NO’, 10 is a ‘definite YES’. If things get uncomfortable, don’t panic, try to stay with the exercise as long as you can. If and when you have to break off, write down your thoughts immediately. They don't have to 'mean' anything, or be logical, but often are an indirect way of leading you to important information.
The 3 Questions are as follows:-
Do I deserve to be healed? 1-10
Do I think healing is possible at all? 1-10
Do I think I will be healed? 1-10
OK, now place the mirror so you can look directly into it and see your whole face. Look at that face carefully. What is your first reaction to ‘you’? Gradually move your focus towards the eyes that you see in the mirror. Keep the focus on those eyes and allow out whatever thoughts and emotions you may have about what or who you are seeing.
When you have settled a little, ask the three questions one at a time while still holding the focus on those eyes. Give a score of 0 to 10 for each question if you can, and mentally note any thoughts that occur.
Complete the exercise by gently breaking the focus and writing down the results and any thoughts or emotions you had during the exercise. Indeed, write whatever you feel you need to write whether it’s relevant to the Mirror Exercise or not. Writing is a fantastic way to release all types of feelings.
If you have a score of less than 7 for the first question, then this issue is a significant one for you. You should immediately set about investigating why you are thinking the way you are. Help can be found from professionals such as psychologists, hypnotherapists and many others, depending upon who you feel may be the most comfortable for you to work with at this particular point in time. You can try to dig for answers on your own instead, but using a professional is generally quicker and more direct.
Your scores for questions 2 and 3 indicate your current beliefs and since your mind controls much of what goes on in your body then the higher the score, the better the chance you have of recovery. If your score is low, the 7 Day Healing Programme should lead to changes in your thinking which will cause those scores to rise towards the 10 mark, indicating an improvement in your chances of recovery.
