Weaning a baby should be interesting and fun. Always remember that during the process, the baby will still receive much of his or her nutrition from baby formula or breast milk so you get the opportunity to experiment with what your baby likes and what he doesn’t like.

In "Introducing Solids & Making Your Own Organic Baby Food," we will talk about how to wean a baby, what foods to choose and how to make some really healthy organic baby foods for your baby to dine on. Conclusion

    Introduction

Taylor’s story: Taylor is a healthy 6 month old who is underweight for her age. She has been exclusively breastfed and mom wants to introduce solids along with breast milk now that Taylor is 6 months old.

Jason’s story: Jason is five months of age and robust in weight. His parents report he drinks twelve bottles a day and doesn’t seem satisfied. He is curious about what mom and dad are eating but hasn’t eaten solid foods yet.

Marie’s story: Marie was premature by 2 months and is now 6 months of age. She drinks 8 bottles a day and seems satisfied. She is not showing any interest in the feeding of others.

The point of these vignettes is to say that every baby is different and what works with one baby may not work well with another baby. There are babies that have received all their nutrition from mother’s milk and may take some extra time learning how to eat from a spoon. There are babies with health problems or problems with prematurity that may need the doctor’s advice as to when be the best time to start solid foods.

Most formulas are basically the same and include cow’s milk-based formula, soy-formula, and formula that contains elemental formulas for baby’s with allergies or digestive problems. These are the formulas your baby might be on at the time of weaning:
