    Introduction

Restorative yoga is a gentle form of yoga. It can be practiced by anyone, anytime, by beginners or advanced yoga practitioners. It serves to bring more flexibility, musculoskeletal and emotional release, and quietude of mind.

This simple book is to help outline the approach to restorative forms of yoga. I have provided some fundamental principles to act as a guide to help you practice in a safe and supportive manner. Please read all this information before starting the poses.

Many of the poses can be adapted to suit your level of mobility and the resources available. It is encouraged that you experiment with various poses once you become familiar with the main poses outlined in this book.

Deep kinesthetic awareness develops through the practice of gentle and restorative yoga. A developed kinesthetic awareness helps you to move your body in more effective and efficient ways. It also helps you to become more sensitive and attuned to various environments, to other people, and to your own inner intelligence and wisdom.

Within the scope of any yoga practice there are almost limitless postures and practices that one can explore. This is also true for restorative and other gentle forms of yoga. However, for the benefit of this book, I have chosen to simplify the practice to keep it uncomplicated, and therefore accessible to all levels and abilities. The postures outlined in this book are more than enough to either get you started on your journey, or provide you some extra insight into your already established yoga practice. If after reading
