Building the Crankshaft Assembly
Starting at the beginning, the main supporting bearings need to be produced.
I made the two bearings from 3/4 diameter phosphor bronze bar attached squarely to a brass flat at 3/16 by 2 and 1/4 x 1 and 1/2 inches each.
The brass flats sit end-on on top of the firebox top plate and are bolted to the tops of the inside of the firebox side plates.
Firstly, take your 1 and 1/2 inch x 3/16 brass plate and cut off two lengths at a little over 2 and 1/4 inches and square the ends off before marking the centre of the length on each plate.
Mark off at 1/4 inch along both the upright sides and also the bottom edge along with a mark from the bottom again on both plates across the centre line at 1 and 1/2 inches up and lightly centre punch these two points.
The 4ba securing bolts on the sides are set at 1/4, 3/4, and 11/4 inches up from the base. These holes will be threaded for the 4ba bolts and lock nuts will be added on the inside for security purposes.
Both these flats now need drilling with a 5/8 drill at the upper crossing point on the central line, with the
