    Water Tank, Pipework and Fittings

The pipe work on PYRTE the Traction Engine is very simple and starts from the water tank, carrying the clean water to the hand pump, and from there passes along and through a one way valve into the lower fitting on the boiler.

Once the water is heated and turned into steam, the exit from the boiler is through the top fitting of the sight gauge on the rear of the boiler as can be seen on the left hand side of this picture.

From the top of the gauge, a 1/4 pipe (it’s all 3/16 inside diameter – 1/4 outside, on the delivery side from the boiler) goes left (as you sit behind the traction engine) and loops around the fire-box back-plate to connect up to the 1 and 1/4 inch diameter
