About this ebook

The laying on of hands is a spiritual process by which hands are laid on people for the transfer of spiritual virtue, gifts and blessings. The practice of laying on of hands is an ancient tradition which began in the Old Testament, continued in the ministry of Christ and in the New Testament Church and is in practice in the Church today. This practice is one of the most treasured abilities God has given the Church. It is so important to the Body of Christ that we have to teach and practise it constantly to keep it alive.
In this book I teach on the meaning of laying on of hands, trace its practice in the Bible and explain the power that is available to the Church through it. A mighty revival of the Holy Ghost is lowing across the globe, which features laying on of hands and manifestations of the Spirit.

    INTRODUCTION

The laying on of hands is a spiritual process by which hands are laid on people for the transfer of spiritual virtue, gifts and blessings. The practice of laying on of hands is an ancient tradition which began in the Old Testament, continued in the ministry of Christ and in the New Testament Church and is in practice in the Church today. This practice is one of the most treasured abilities God has given the Church. It is so important to the Body of Christ that, we have to teach and practise it constantly to keep it alive.

This important grace of laying on of hands suffers one thing or another in the Body of Christ that has to be corrected. Some of the things it suffers are as follows:

    1. Neglect: many churches, ministers and believers completely neglect the grace of laying on of hands. Some don’t neglect it completely but practise it sparingly only on special occasions. Those who neglect it don’t teach or practise it. They believe in and teach other biblical truths with passion and emphasise the power of the written and spoken Word of God but deny the efficacy of spiritual gifts. It is common to see respectable believers who have the form of godliness but deny its power.

    2. Lip service: a number of respectable ministers and believers pay lip service to the doctrine of laying on of hands. They teach that it is biblical but they don’t practise it. This group of people believe that it was practised in the Bible and in the era of the Apostles of Christ but it is not relevant to our times. Some of those who pay lip service to this great gift, admit that it is valid today but it is the exclusive right of special believers. Such people disqualify the majority in the Body of Christ from practising it by insisting that one must attain a lofty spiritual height to qualify to lay hands on people.

    3. Attack: sceptical believers attack the practice of laying on of hands and ridicule it. They make a mockery of falling under the power and accuse ministers who lay hands on others of pushing them down. Ministers who claim to believe only in the power of the Word of God undermine the integrity of preachers who lay hands on people. They attribute the manifestations of the Spirit in other believers’ lives to occult powers and psychological manipulation. Such ministers lack the power of the Holy Ghost in their ministries but criticise those who exercise their faith to walk in spiritual power.

    4. Abuse: in some Christian circles, this grace is abused. It is commercialised and used to control people. Individuals in the Body of Christ who need the ministration of the Spirit are sometimes
