Justin Luyt

Born and raised in South Africa, Justin has always been a seeker of higher understanding and knowledge. His fascination with the human mind and its emotional ranges has given him a passion for helping others enhance their quality of life. His search has led him to develop and continuously expand his own spiritual and personal path to growth. This drive lasted into his adulthood and led him to pursue a career in the corporate facilitator arena. Sought after by many, Justin’s first foray into this field came as a corporate trainer for one of South Africa’s premiere training institutions. His hands-on experience allowed him the privilege of working with clients such as Unisys, De Beers, Fujitsu and other multi-national corporations. In 1997, Justin embraced his adventurous spirit and accepted a position in the United States. He made his trek to New Jersey, where he lent his knowledge and abilities to a high-end IT consulting firm. This fruitful event opened the door to utilizing his mentoring, facilitating and coaching skills for the New Jersey Department of Labor during a wide scale transfer project. Over the course of two years, Justin’s methods were utilized to facilitate forum, classroom training, coaching and mentoring sessions for the department. His outside-of-the-box training style and dynamic client centered methodology provided him with numerous opportunities to share his methods with corporate clients. One such example is Electronic Data Systems (EDS), one of the largest global outsourcing organizations in the world. He has worked with them to facilitate and train students and personnel alike.

    Introduction

Welcome to the Spirit of Romance. This unique book is the first step on your journey. My name is Justin Luyt and I will be your guide throughout this journey. We will be exploring not just the highways of the mind, but the often less-traveled roads of spirit and heart.

By purchasing this series, you are affirming that you are of open mind and willing to grow. Personal growth is not something that is given. We have to work at it and always believe that our minds are never too full of knowledge. Instead, they are vessels that are filled continuously by the world around us.

What does this series do? Why is it different from the hundreds of others on the shelf that tackle the same topic? By design, it’s actually quite a simple concept. By learning to love and accept your inner greatness, you are able to open that greatness to those around you. They, in turn, do the same for you.

Throughout mankind’s’ historical existence, great philosophers, poets and leaders such as Shakespeare, Aristotle and Gandhi have tackled and spoken of love and romance. The one underlying link, however, is first seeking and tapping into the greater power that lies within you.

Often we enter into relationships with the idea that if we just had the right partner or found our soul mate, life would be complete and perfect. Focusing so much on always seeking externally the reasons to be happy with someone, we forget simply to be happy with ourselves. Perhaps you are in this type of situation, or have experienced it in the past. This is an all-too-common reality for many; and the interactive exercises in this series will help you to eradicate this from your own reality. Chapters are short and easy to read, with the occasional humor to ease the deep subject on which you are working.

From a summary standpoint, this series tackles the topics of love, romance, sex, and affection. Over the years, I have developed a series of effective, precise interactive exercises and perceptions that will help you to change your ideas about the world.

As humans, we are all part of an intrinsic Macrocosm. Each of us is an energy source that lends to the collective whole of the human spirit. For our purposes throughout this series, we will refer periodically to this inner source simply as Spirit. By using the included interactive exercises and perceptions, you will be able to follow the road of Spirit and learn how it can take you to your final destination, the internal love and acceptance of self. We will also explore how relationships essentially don’t ever truly have a definite clear-cut end; they merely travel down the road following the dips and curves that they encounter along the way.

Upon completion of this series, you will be empowered with a new perspective on not only your relationships, but on yourself and the unique, amazing qualities you possess. You will be able to take your fears of the unknown and transform them instead into the excitement of unseen challenges.

By building your confidence and embracing both the joyful and the less joyful, you will in turn be able use these emotions as tools for personal growth.

In closing this introduction, I would like to ask that you never lose sight of being completely honest and true to yourself and what you are accomplishing. With your willingness and authenticity, this is your first step down your own life’s path; and I say to you, Let’s get started!

    The Origins of Romance

Because our societal thoughts on relationships and romance have changed very drastically throughout the centuries, it is important to look at and acknowledge from whence we came.

Our historical timeline has shown that relationships were necessary to ensure the ultimate survival of the family name. Rarely did a man actually choose a mate because he loved her and therefore needed her. Instead, he chose his mate according to her social standing, overall health and the size of the dowry offered to him by her father. The women in the relationship certainly never thought about romance and especially not love. From infancy, it was taught that her role was to become a wife and subsequently a mother when she grew up. Modern society is based on this topic; it is awe-inspiring to see how rapidly the human spirit has evolved from the mindset of yesteryear.

So how did society take the collective steps that would bring us from the dark ages into a more enlightened view of relationships and the roles they play? Firstly, we can harken back to the wonderful period when the concept of Knights and the knighthood played a significant societal role: men of honor protecting the fair damsel, ensuring that her
