    Preface

    In every life there are certain times which we remember more clearly than others, moments when the emotional impact of an event or a place are strong enough to register permanently in our memories. When we recall these memories many years later, it is often imperfectly and with rose-tinted spectacles that we do so, perhaps only being able to recall a vague positive feeling or a brief mental image.

    The beauty of photographs is in their ability to transport us back instantly to previous times and places in our lives with much greater clarity and so it is using this medium that I rely on more than any other to preserve the sights and memories of places I have travelled to in my own life.

    The second advantage of photographs is that rather than having these memories merely locked away in my own head I can share them with others and it is for this reason that I have put this book together; in the hope that these following images of my travels will show
