EMILY LOVES WORKING HARD
AFTER HOURS AND COUNTING, AND SHE’S STILL AT HER DESK

Emily works in a law firm, surrounded by men and their egos. But among these men, she really liked sweet, handsome Adam. She finds Adam so cute, and so sweet he makes her want to do things to him, even if he is too shy and naive to initiate.

Then one late afternoon, after all their co-workers have left and they are alone working, an accident happens that gives way for someone to start something. Unfortunately, the lucky event is caught by a security camera. And the next day, the feedback, watched by one of the bosses, brings Emily trouble.

She gets a chance to get laid, sure.

Just by the wrong guy.

EXCERPT
“Hey Emily, when you get a chance could we talk about what happened yesterday somewhere private?” Adam's said from her cubicle entrance. “I just want you to know that I really respect you and I--”

Emily cut him off. “Just don't be weird, okay?” Emily said. “Everything is fine and I know you respect me. Just go to work and we'll talk later.”

“Well, all right,” Adam said as if deep in thought. “As long as you are sure that you know that I really do respect you and don't think you are some kind of slut or anything.”

“Adam,” Emily's voice was a hiss over her shoulder at him. “Get the fuck out of my cubicle and go to work. We'll talk later, I promise.”

Emily heard a shuffling noise that trailed steadily to the general vicinity of Adam's desk and couldn't help but let out a sigh of relief.

It was going to be hard enough dealing with Brad, a partner, not to mention smoothing things over with a co-worker who was too nice or naïve to know that she had wanted it just as much as he had so there was nothing to talk about.

Emily glanced over her shoulder just to be sure Adam had really left and when she glanced back at her computer, she had another email.

The new email was from Brad again and this had a one word subject heading that said it all.

Lily Green

Lily Green is 41, divorced, and lives in Pacific Heights, San Francisco. She has two sons—Michael, 22 and Todd, 18. Lily has a dark past—she was adopted as a child by a well-meaning, homey schoolteacher and her husband, a bartender. Her adopted father abused her as a child, and in her late teens, she decided she had had enough and reported the incident both to her mom, and the local police. Her mother, instead of coming to her aid, decided to evict her. Lily, therefore, had to move into the city and fend for herself, working odd jobs to put herself through college. She married Howard, a fellow student, and father to both her sons. They parted ways when Todd was 3. Michael is in medical school—an intern—with a pre-med degree in Psychiatry. Michael resides in L.A. Todd is a student at San Francisco University, taking up Dance as his major. Both Michael and Todd are single. Her former husband is Howard, head of an architecture firm. Though he and Lily are estranged, he helps put the kids through college. Lily herself was a dance choreographer—and now teaches Development of Dance Techniques and Dance Theory—part time. She is known to date men several years her junior, as she finds most men her age or older to be “too serious” and “boring." She has a healthy appetite for sex, but finds getting into a serious relationship for long periods “a waste of time." She feels she has yet to find a man her equal both intellectually and physically. She does not believe in “love”—she defines relationships as a meeting of minds and a consensual approval of helping the other grow. Lily is into organic food and is a health and exercise buff (though mostly incidental—the exercising helps “clear her mind”). She is into “centering” and yoga. She has yet to give up smoking, though. She loves to shop but within reason. Anything excessive and lavish has to be justified, she feels. Lily is deeply into social work (she is a member of the local LGBT group as a generous donor for free HIV testing drives, among other advocacies.). She is also an advocate for animal adoption. She describes herself as “a city girl with a small-town heart."

Do not like any book written by Lily Green. Only took me 5 pages in one of her books to know that. Am sure she has fans but I'm not one of them.

Chapter One

THE POWER POINT flashed by on the screen, slide after slide, until finally the presentation was over.

Emily squinted as the lights came back on, revealing the numerous partners, coworkers, and paralegals seated at the long table in front of her. The projector behind her hummed for a second before falling silent. She quickly glanced from face to face of the partners seated closest to her. They all looked tired, like they needed another cup of coffee. Being a partner of a high profile legal firm was no joke and the toll was visible on all of them.

But she saw the sign she was seeking.

Although tired, they were all smiling and looking attentive. This was a good sign, and the smile that spread across Emily's face was genuine. She didn't check any of the other faces in the room because the partners ran the show. She skipped all of them except one.

Adam, sitting at the far right corner of the table, gave her a thumbs up and a big smile. Emily took a deep breathe, drew herself upright, and continued with the proposal.

In this way, working hand in hand with the city... Emily heard herself talking, but her mind was already elsewhere. She had gone over this speech so many times she could have given it while juggling chainsaws. Now that she'd relaxed, that was, the next part was fairly easy.

As she finished off her presentation, Emily's mind wondered back to the start of the day, when she had just come into the office and started a fresh pot of coffee. She had been early, wanting to square a few loose ends away before she had to prepare the meeting room for her proposal's presentation.

Adam had been early as well and when the coffee was done, he had gotten a cup before sauntering over to her cubicle.

Emily, this is great coffee. Did you bring it from home? Adam asked.

She turned to look at Adam standing at the door of her cubicle.

He was a handsome enough guy, standing about 5' 10" with full head of brown hair and blue eyes. In the right light, he looked a little bit like a movie star sometimes. Emily couldn't help but notice that the buttoned up shirt he had worn to work showed off his pecs really well, the fabric between the apparently chiseled muscles strained at the buttons.

Adam had been pursuing her for weeks now - without being formal about it - so she called him guy friend. He was really nice and intelligent and not like any of the other guys she knew. He's so... what was the word?

Oh yes, naive.

And Emily knew all about not being naive. She had been to and done many things she knew Adam couldn't even imagine.

But that didn't mean she hadn't noticed his delicious physical attributes. It had been so long since she had indulged herself.

The problem with Adam was, if she let him get in, he would let her get into his skin.

And that would be very nice. Hmmm, she just knew it would be.

But when it's over, she would
