This workbook accompanies the online course College Writing 2.3x, Principles of Written English, the third of a series of three courses offered by the College Writing Programs of the University of California, Berkeley, through edX.org. You do not need to have taken the first or second courses to benefit from this third one.
This workbook offers additional ways to practice writing and reviewing the materials for the online course. The workbook includes a summary of information given in the course, writing prompts, and quizzes (with suggested answers).
If you would like to purchase this workbook and are not taking the course, you may still find use for the materials. However, it should be noted that the course is offered free of charge, so you are welcome to join the live course. Information on how to do so and the website address are noted in the workbook’s introduction.
Maggie Sokolik
Maggie Sokolik, Ph.D. was born in Olympia, Washington. She is a writer/editor living in the Bay Area. She graduated from Reed College in Portland, Oregon, and received a Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics from UCLA. She directs the writing program at UC Berkeley. She is also the instructor for a popular online writing course, College Writing 2x, as well as the BerkeleyX Book Club, both offered through edx.org. These courses are offered free of charge to readers and writers around the world, and have attracted over a quarter million students to date.
