More often than not, new real estate agents fail, not because they couldn’t do the job, but because they didn’t get the guidance that would help them achieve a successful career. Real estate is opportunity. You don’t have to have an expensive degree to do well in real estate. You don’t need a bunch of start-up capital. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I loved how this book introduced me to real estate. It has some solid knowledge that I am glad I came across in this book. Thanks to Dave, I'm interested to know more about real estate.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5As a 16 year RE veteran, I appreciate and agree with a lot of what Dave lays out. It was refreshing to find a book where the author wasn't promising to show the reader how to "make millions" or "flip like a boss" or any of the other crap I keep gagging over. The reality is that nothing is EVER easy or follows some "formula" for success, like Dave says, put your feet to the floor and get moving. Two big high fives, Dave! My contribution (almost done) is going to be in the same category - Real Estate; Truth. Haha :) Aloha~

Chapter 1 The Reality
Real estate is opportunity. It’s a great leveler. You don’t have to have an expensive degree to do well in real estate. You don’t need a bunch of start-up capital. It’s a business you can start on a shoestring, and it’s up to you whether or not it becomes a successful profession. You can make money if you’re a hard worker, and you’re willing to commit yourself. Real estate is always rolling a stone uphill. Depending on the market, the size of the stone changes – but it’s never easy. Even at the top of a runaway seller’s market, there are always losers. When asked if it was a good career, a 28 year real estate veteran wrote on Realtor.com: if you’re willing to work your butt off real estate is the best career!
Maybe you were drawn into real estate by a book called The Million Dollar Agent, Make Your Fortune at Real Estate, Real Estate Millions or Making a Million Selling Real Estate. There are a lot of books out there with a million in the title. Be assured that you’re probably not going to make a million right out of the gate. You might. But shy of luck, most real estate agents have to work and sweat for their fortunes. Well, maybe just work. The average real estate agent makes a lot less. But you already knew that. The next few chapters focus on making a good living being your own boss. You can make your first million next year. Sure, a few lucky people break the bank early, but most start out needing to make enough to pay the bills. Where people run into trouble is thinking they can make a living without doing any real work. Real estate is hard work and demands a lot before you can be successful – unless you get lucky. Succeeding in real estate takes thought and effort. The sooner you realize that, the sooner it will pay off.
Real estate and business books are a great way to energize yourself and polish what you know. Just keep in mind that if you are searching for that one revolutionary method of real estate success in a book, (or on YouTube video or somebody’s blog) you’re going to be completely disappointed. There are some people (a few anyway) who have made millions and become super agents. But these are the exception. And they didn’t accomplish it by using something they found in a book. The NAR (The National Association of Realtors®) says they
