Episode 1 - The Scheme
Tobey
Yale University
New Haven, Connecticut
Tobey believed there were two types of people in this world: the winners and the losers. Tobey had always fashioned himself a winner. And as he stepped onto the Yale campus for the very first time as a student, he was sure that his fate as a winner type had been sealed. He was here. After years of struggling through the drudgery of a public high school one hour north of Chicago (Tobey liked to say he was from suburban Chicago,
but he was really from out in the corn fields), he had made it to the top. This was the promised land.

As the trunks of their cars popped open, Tobey caught a glance of one perfectly organized load after another, no doubt packed by these wealthy students’ doting mothers who probably had nothing better to do than obsess over every little detail of their dear son’s departure to college. As mother after mother wearing pearls and cashmere sweaters stepped out of the passenger seat to direct the swarms of upperclassmen who were required to carry the incoming freshmen’s belongings up the stairs, his suspicions were confirmed. Clearly, Tobey came from a different world. But pretty soon, he’d be a part of this one. He was sure of that. Before any of his future friends could see him, he needed to find a shower.
The freshmen at Yale live on the Old Campus. Old Campus is a beautiful quad surrounded by Gothic buildings. Students are assigned their dorm depending on their residential college. The residential college system was one of the many reasons Tobey had become enraptured by Yale; it was the real life Harry Potter. There was no Sorting Hat, but the residential college system was about as close as you could get
