ENDNOTES
INTRODUCTION
Grace is what God has done and is doing for us because of Christ’s finished work. Because it is based on what Christ has done, it cannot be earned or deserved; it can only be received. It is human nature to feel that if we do the right things, we should get the right reward. But grace says there is nothing we can do to earn what only God can give. The good news is that God freely gives us all things in Christ. Everything we need for life and godliness has been given us in Christ (see 2 Pet. 1:3). We are already blessed with every spiritual blessing in Christ (see Eph. 1:3). All these things have been done for us and belong to us freely, given to us in grace.
Faith is the hand that receives what God in His grace freely gives. Because of this, Satan greatly fears that we will learn to walk in the simplicity of faith.
Many believers struggle with the concept of faith. They know they should have faith, and yet they feel like their faith is weak and often wavering. How do we develop strong faith? Are there keys to building a faith that consistently pleases God? I believe there are. For our hearts to be established by grace, we need to understand and walk in faith. On the human side, faith is the way we receive what the grace of God has provided into our lives.
The Word of God says,
Without faith it is impossible to please God. He that draws near to God must believe that He is, and that He becomes the rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Hebrews 11:6 MLT
If our heavenly Father requires us to have faith but has not made the means available to obtain faith, we could question His justice.
We know our Father is not unjust. But many believers do not have a solid foundation under their faith walk; they are not established in the grace of God that builds strong confidence in God. The purpose of this book is to point to some foundational truths that will establish your heart so that a victorious life of faith may become yours. God is no respecter of persons. All of His children can develop strong faith.
As this book unfolds, allow yourself to examine your own foundation and see if these truths are deeply established in your life. If you discover they are not, know that they can be if you ask your Father to unveil them to you and establish you in them. Each lesson is followed by a prayer declaration so you can pray to renew your mind and build your faith in each of the areas discussed. They are suggestive and may be used in their entirety or as a basis to develop your own declaration. Your faith will grow as you hear yourself speak the Word of God (see Rom. 10:17).
Notice Jesus’ teaching about the Word of God and the storms of life:
Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like: He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock. But he who heard and did nothing is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream beat vehemently; and immediately it fell. And the ruin of that house was great. Luke 6:47–49
It was not the flood that caused the ruin of the second man’s house; it was his lack of a well-laid foundation. We all face difficulties in this life. But if we have learned to be doers of the Word, the storms will not be our undoing. We will stand strong, and the trying of our faith will work patience (see James 1:3). All of us are called to walk in a faith that endures hardship as good soldiers of Jesus Christ (see 2 Tim. 2:3). In the following chapters, we will examine some truths the Father has called us to walk in that will lay a grace foundation for our faith life to be strong and victorious.
These truths have brought consistent victory into my walk with the Lord. I have come from a life of constant struggle to a place of rest and joy in my relationship with my heavenly Father. My prayer is that these truths will have the same fruit in your life. It did not happen overnight for me and probably won’t for you, either. But faithful diligence pays the dividends. This is not about working a formula or trying to earn anything from God. It is about spending enough time with Him, bringing His Word before the throne, and inviting the Holy Spirit to illuminate and empower the Word.
THE INTEGRITY OF THE WORD
One area many believers fail to consider when trying to understand why their own faith is weak is the integrity of God’s Word. All Bible-believing Christians agree the Bible is the Word of God. But many
