- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This was such an adorable book! It combined multiculturalism, personification, tooth fairy myths, and heroism. First, the language and setting of the text reflected French culture. The scenery included French cathedrals and the writing had bits of French words thrown in, but also easily decoded through context clues. Also, the main characters were all mice, which is appealing to young readers because they appreciate personified animals and it draws them into the text. The main event taking place was deciding who would be the next “Tooth Mouse”. The mice had to go through a series of challenges in order to prove their worthiness, but had to do so in honorable ways. They had to prove that they were brave, honest, and wise. The mouse that proved herself worthy of being the next Tooth Mouse was the smallest of all the competing mice, which showed that no matter who you are, true character is what matters most. The “Petit Souris” (Small Mouse) had the best idea for how to use the teeth collected, which was to deliver money to children in exchange for their teeth. This also is great for demonstrating to children who are losing teeth for the first time what the tooth fairy does and gives them comfort if they are nervous about their teeth falling out. The main purpose of this story is to demonstrate true character through the lens of the Tooth Fairy legend.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Wonderful story about a little French mouse who wants to be The Tooth Mouse, a different cultural version of the tooth fairy. She must compete with other mice to accomplish three tasks to win the title. Fresh illustrations and a smattering of French phrases make this book a little gem on how the little guy, or girl, can come out ahead if they try and believe in themselves.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A finely crafted fable offering a charming variation on the tooth fairy.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Sophie is a spunky, fun character. My 3yo likened her to Angelina Ballerina. I particularly liked the illustrations, which complement the French phrases embedded within the text. I'm not sure I'm 100% on board with the ending, which is the reason for four stars instead of five. It's creative, but a little too strange for my taste.
