Introduction
Old habits die hard, so it was a real challenge for me to unlearn my way of formatting word documents in order to produce an error-free, professional-looking ebook upload. Get rid of page numbers? Never! Stop using tabs to indent? Why would I do that? One space after a period? In my mind only teenagers did that. But all my research indicated that's exactly what I needed to do—and more. Clearly changes were in order . . . and I don't like change.
So naturally, I did more investigation. I took copious notes, and, miracle of miracles, in the end I managed to upload my story with just two Smashwords autovetter errors: I needed to resize my book cover jpeg to 1200 x 2400 pixels and condense my Published by/Copyright credit pages down to one that included a Smashwords mention in order to meet their specific requirement.
I should point out that Smashwords is my preferred distributor for Apple’s iBooks,
