Instant Coffee... Why would you name a book that’s not about coffee, Instant Coffee?
Well, aside from the fact that I love coffee, I named this book Instant Coffee: A Collection of Articles On Life As A Twentysomething because this book is intended to be easy-to-use, reliable, and good to the soul--kind of like Instant Coffee.

It’s also intended to be something you could read at any time, anywhere. A Note for the Dreamers and Entrepreneurs

I've found that one of the most difficult things about turning your dream into a reality is getting the people who knew you before the dream to look at you in a new light. I can't imagine that people still do it to stars like Rihanna, for example, but I'm sure when she first started pursuing her musical career many of the people who knew her just saw her as Sweet Little RiRi until she hit the music scene heavily.

Unfortunately for us (the dream-chasers), we have to fight ten times as hard to get the people we know to support us and change the way they see us before we 'make it'. We have to spend our time explaining to the people who know us why we've decided to pursue our dreams and furthermore, convince them that not only do we believe we're going to be successful, but that they should too. It's never as hard to get people who do not know you to believe in your dream. If you meet someone new and introduce yourself and your work, from that point on that's who they know you to be. It makes me question why it's so difficult for the people closest to us to do that.

So, as I sit here trying to hash out this book, it's hitting me more and more… if we want to be somebody... WE MUST ACT LIKE IT. Consistency is key. Now, I'm not saying to go out and act too large for life, but if you're an aspiring artist, model, singer--whatever... see yourself and more importantly, CARRY YOURSELF as just that. If you think it, believe it, and BE it, I'm certain others will have no other choice but to follow suit.

I say this to all of us dreamers, hard work pays off. Do not consider yourself anything but what you wish to be. In all that you do, let it be in efforts to achieve that main goal. Think of yourself as a credible being in whatever field it is you're trying to be in. Do not leave room for doubt, from you or anyone else. SEE THE BIG PICTURE ALWAYS. Share your story with as many people as possible. Share your work with as many people as possible. It's an inevitable plan. Say it to yourself everyday... I am a _________. Believe that statement.

    We got this.

A Writing Exercise to Identify What Makes Your Soul Happy

Do you know exactly what makes your soul happy? You know, like the ‘smile to yourself’, ‘always happy’ kind of joy? Well, I'm living it! I've found that when I'm expressing the reasons behind my joy and happiness many people find the reasons simple, yet shocking so I want to share with you a quick writing exercise that may help you identify what will allow you to live with the same type of joy and happiness. Grab a sheet of paper and set your timer for three minutes. In that three minutes, write down everything that makes you feel good and not any old type of good, but good-good.. Here's the list I came up with in three minutes:

    It Feels Good When...

    I pray.

    I write.

    I spend time with myself.

    I keep my promises.

    I call my mother.

    I visit friends.

    I reminisce.

    I daydream.

    I make healthy choices.

    I create.

    I sing.

    I dance.

I listen to my favorite songs.

    I make love.

    I buy clothes.

    I read.

    I experience something new.

    I see the city lights.

    I impress someone.

    I encourage others.

    People believe in my dreams.

    People appreciate me.

    People read The Goddess Column.

    People confide in me.

    People motivate me.

    People want me.

    People look up to me.

    People challenge me.

Like I mentioned, these are just a few that I could write down within three minutes time, but doing this will open up that train of thought that will allow you to see what things truly make your soul smile. Feel free to try any of mine on for size! After you've completed the exercise make sure you put the list up somewhere and do yourself the favor of committing to doing at least three things on that list every day. Ready, set, go!

Five Benefits to Hitting Rock Bottom

Before you read any further, I want you to stop and take a deep breath. No seriously... do it. You're not alone in feeling like you've hit rock bottom, I promise you. More and more of our generation is starting to feel the depression of going to college, wasting time in college, not going to college, not finding love, not having moral support, following dreams, finding careers, past misfortunes, and straight-up unhappiness. Rock bottom looks and feels different to each of us, but getting up from our lowest point doesn't have to be hard. When you look at things the way I did, you'll see that hitting rock bottom really isn't as bad as we feel it is. Here are five benefits to hitting rock bottom. Let's get into it!

    No blissful distractions.

When we get to the point where we feel like we've hit rock bottom, it makes us aware of the things that played a role in distracting us from the things we were working for in the first place. Sometimes when everything is going just the way we like it (or even better), we get comfortable and we don't focus so much on achieving the main goal. We don't work as hard. We don't recognize the fact that although things may seem perfect for the time being, things don't just 'work out' for us... it takes hard work and focus. Ultimately, we become blissfully distracted. That's another reason why hard times beat up on us the way they do when we have to face them because most times we have already taken the good times for granted.

You can filter out your real friends.

Some of those blissful distractions end up being our friends--or at least people we thought were our friends. Feeling like you're at rock bottom allows you to see the people who really care about you--yes, especially the friend that tells you to get off your ass; stop crying; and to get yourself together! Finding yourself down and out is hard and most times it takes some serious support emotionally, financially, or whatever way you may seem to need it. Who would come to your rescue? Most times, it's not as many people as you thought it would be and sometimes it's not even the people you thought it would be at all.

It's easier to focus on what you really want for yourself.

Hopefully you'll find your truest friends and supporters during this time who will help you get your mojo back. I find that I feel most motivated when I feel like I'm not doing my best--especially when someone else has to bring it to my attention. When you're feeling like you're at rock bottom it should be easier for you to think about what you really want and need to be happy. Remember, don't confuse this with quick fixes or blissful distractions! Make sure they are real goals and priorities that will make you feel accomplished and proud! It should allow you to refocus your goals and desires, therefore bringing us to our next benefit.

It’s easier to get your all your ducks in a row.

After realizing your distractions, having your support system, and clarifying your goals you should be feeling more than motivated to get all of your ducks in a row. That means setting the plan that will lead you to a better place than you are now. It means practicing discipline. It means refraining from falling for distractions that may come your way again. If you can do this you will find that getting up isn't as painful as it seems.

The only place you can go from here is UP.

Ultimately, this is what you need to see. Take another breath. Be relieved and look on the bright side! If you've reached the bottom, then there is no
