Chapter 1: An Introduction to Astronomy
Astronomy is the study of celestial bodies. Many people confuse astronomy and astrology with each other. Astronomy is considered to be and recognized as a science while astrology is the art of foretelling what some people believe are the effects that planets and stars have in their lives.
In general, astronomers study stars, planets and all other phenomena that exist in space. Astronomers wish to learn about the way the universe works, how it came to exist and how it has evolved and how it will continue to evolve.
There are different types of astronomers and each one of them contributes to the study of the universe in different ways.
Observational astronomers: these astronomers observe and study various celestial bodies.
