About this ebook
Sitting under a green tree may often be one of the most enriching and enlightening experiences for a person, as he looks into the deepest parts of his mind, lost in his thoughts. Often, these thoughts take the shape of verses, as he jots them down before the float away.
Such was the birth of 'Under The Green Woods', a collection of poems spread over various topics, ranging from romance to ancient cultural history.
Several of the poems reflect the thoughts of an ordinary person living his daily life, breathing in the mundane monotony around him. Most of us no longer get the chance to escape into ourselves, to sit and just think about the beauty of nature, of this planet, and of our own selves. We get so busy trying to secure our tomorrow that our today is lost to us forever.
In the forty poems in this collection, the readers are presented with questions that they should have asked themselves much earlier. It's still not too late to revert to our happy selves, and all we need to do it try harder.
This book aims to revive the spirit of happiness in the reader, to challenge the existing norms of society, to point to the follies of our past, and to let the people enjoy the day that the live in.

WHAT IF?
WHY YOU ARE HERE
A STROLL
Walking down the dusty roads,
With the heavens pouring their wrath on me.
Fires burning through my soul,
Testing my mortality.
Cars whizzing past me,
Scratching me from both sides,
As I walk through the middle of the road,
Hoping some good will come by.
Nothing good comes, the rains intensify
The burns that cause
The very source of my life to crumble.
I know I have to keep walking,
But I don’t know how far I have to go
To fulfil my destiny.
I don’t even know my destiny.
What am I walking for?
I can’t look up, my head in hung
In shame, but for what?
What is this guilt all about?
Why this anger?
Why am I the only one to suffer?
Things will change, they all kept saying.
Things never changed, they stayed the same.
I kept fighting, and kept falling down.
But this time, I left it all.
Left behind my cause of pain.
And I walked away, with my head hung down,
Hung down in an unknown shame.
The rain kept pouring down,
Brushing down my sides.
It seems to be intensifying,
The storm that’s rising inside.
The dust is rising, rising up high,
Blinding my vision, I can’t justify
My reasons for walking out,
But I know it’s right.
And I will come back someday,
I will fight back what has burnt my ways.
I will win over my adversities,
And rise to grab the opportunities.
BE HAPPY
When the throat turns sore,
And you feel like you can’t take it anymore.
When you know you have to quit,
Because the fight will tear you away, bit by bit.
When the reality seems like a nightmare,
And nobody around seems to care.
Turn around, and face the hound,
Because only you know where you are bound.
When the dreams seem to fly away,
And on the yellow grass you lay
Down after the day’s fight.
The enemy was strong, and his cause was right.
You know that you can see defeat,
For on all sides you are surrounded by heat.
Don’t you give up all your strength,
Fight till your last breath, reduce the enemy’s length.
When you fight for your survival,
And hope is never an arrival.
When all you see is death and despair,
And the fields of grain lay bare.
Wait, for there will be another time,
When your produce will be just fine.
Smile through all your sad times,
Laugh the pain away, don’t give even a dime.
And there are you, lying on the street,
Beaten by destiny.
You think you have the worst life,
But you don’t, if your strive
To work hard, every minute of your life
Instead of giving up on time.
Use every skill you have,
For opportunities don’t fall in your lap.
And those of you who think they are
The unluckiest, you’ve gone too far.
For somewhere, there’s a person looking at you,
Wishing he was standing on your platform too.
So thank God everyday for your joys,
Laugh away the sorrows, and throw them away like broken toys.
Life will give you only one chance.
It’s up to you to make it sorrowful, or into a happy dance.
DOWN THE LANE
A deserted lane. Everything is
