Being an Entrepreneur
"The critical ingredient is getting off your butt and doing something.
It's as simple as that.
A lot of people have ideas, but there are few who decide to do something about them now. Not tomorrow. Not next week.
But today. The true entrepreneur is a doer, not a dreamer."
- - Nolan Bushnell, founder of Atari and Chuck E. Cheese's
I love this quote because it doesn’t pull any punches. True, an entrepreneur, as you well know, has to have a dream, a vision. However, that vision doesn’t become reality without focused effort and ACTION.
You know this too.
In fact, if you’ve been in business for more than five minutes, there may be times when you wonder if you’ll ever get everything done. Being an entrepreneur can be HARD work, but the rewards and the freedom are AMAZING.
Now before we get too far ahead of ourselves, it is important to recognize what you’ve accomplished...
Congratulations for being one of those people who got off their butt and did something. You’re an entrepreneur! You own, or are in the process of creating, your own company.
As a business owner, you’ve likely noticed a few changes in your life – and that’s probably an understatement. Your life may feel like it’s in total chaos. Your priorities have probably changed. Housework and socialization may have fallen to the bottom of your to do
list.
You’re now responsible to customers, contractors or employees, and you’re responsible for your own income. Your friends and family are still there and want to spend time with you, and you have your own personal interests and hobbies. Surely those haven’t left your radar. You’ve probably realized that there are too many things to do and too little time to do them all.
Welcome to the world of business ownership!
But seriously, part of being an entrepreneur is learning about balance. It doesn’t happen at once. However, with the right knowledge and approach, you will be able to find that balance. There are a few tricks of the trade. Some of these tricks or strategies will work better for you than others.
Before we get into some of these life-balancing strategies, let’s first take a look at your value as an entrepreneur.
How Entrepreneurs Affect the World Around Them
While it may seem like every person you meet has the dream of opening their own business, for the majority of them, it is just a dream. It’s too bad, really. As a culture and a race, we’ve received so much benefit from those who have decided to make their dreams a reality. Consider Jeff Bezos, who has quite possibly been the biggest influence on online shopping today.
How many people shop online? E-commerce transactions in 2007 reached $228 billion and are expected to reach $258 billion in 2008. That’s a lot of online shopping that might not have existed at this level if it hadn’t been for Amazon.com.
Amazon.com and the concept that shopping online – whether it is books, clothing, or a new car, is part of the new collective consciousness. Jeff Bezos, and his dream to bring the ability to shop from the comfort of your couch, has
