Author

Jenny Ruhl

Jenny Ruhl, a well-known author of business books, was diagnosed with diabetes in 1998. Nothing doctors told her about how to control her blood sugar corresponded to her own experiences and observations. To answer the questions "What causes diabetes" and "What blood sugars prevent complications" she dug into the medical journals newly available online and spent a year tracking down the facts. The result was the bloodsugar101.com web site which now gets well over a million visitors a year. She is a strong supporter of the "Test, Test, Test" strategy for lowering blood sugar. It embodies the highly effective strategy she learned on the now-defunct alt.support.diabetes newsgroup back in the days when it was frequented by quite a few bright, inquisitive engineers. She hears from hundreds of people each year who have used that technique to bring their A1cs down into the 5% range that research shows will prevent diabetic complications.

Lower Your Blood Sugar - Jenny Ruhl

    Introduction

This short book was designed to be read in 30 minutes or less. It presents the essential facts you need to know to lower your blood sugar to a level that will restore you to normal health. These facts have been distilled from the hundreds of pages of our books, Blood Sugar 101: What They Don't Tell You About Diabetes  and  Diet 101: The Truth About Low Carb Diets .

In the pages that follow you'll find a simple, gimmick-free method for lowering blood sugar that has been used successfully over more than a decade by thousands of people active in the diabetes community online. This method works surprisingly well, and best of all, it does not require that you adopt an extreme, faddy diet.

First we'll give you the facts you need to decide how low your blood sugar needs to go to preserve or improve your health. Then we'll show you how to construct a diet that lowers your blood sugar to that level, while still allowing you to eat the foods you enjoy and are already accustomed to.

The facts that support the statements in this book are all derived from research studies you can learn about in the longer books. Our goal here is to give you advice you can take action on immediately. So with that introduction out of the way, let's get started!

If you are reading this, chances are that you or a family member has been told they have insulin resistance, high blood sugar, prediabetes, or even Type 2 diabetes. You may feel worried, or even frightened. If so, good. That fear can motivate you to make the changes that will return you to normal health.

The people who get harmed by abnormal blood sugars are those who aren't scared enough to do something about them. You don't have to be one of them!

Why High Blood Sugars are a Problem

Most of us know that completely ignoring diabetic blood sugars can lead to blindness, kidney failure, and the severe infections that lead to amputation. Fortunately, most doctors now treat patients with diabetes aggressively enough that most people avoid these terrible outcomes

But what most people don't realize is that long-term exposure to moderately diabetic blood sugars—ones  at levels most doctors regard as benign—will also damage our bodies, and that, over time, this subtle damage will also damage our health, perhaps irreversibly.
