About this ebook

In this action-packed third book in the New York Times bestselling Dorothy Must Die series, new girl from Kansas Amy Gumm is caught between her home—and Oz.

My name is Amy Gumm. Tornadoes must have a thing about girls from Kansas, because—just like Dorothy—I got swept away on one too. I landed in Oz, where Good is Wicked, Wicked is Good, and the Wicked Witches clued me in to my true calling: Assassin.

The only way to stop Dorothy from destroying Oz—and Kansas—is to kill her. But I failed. Others died for my mistakes. Because of me, the portal between the worlds has been opened. And if I don’t find a way to close it?

Dorothy will make sure I never go home again.

Now it’s up to me to: join the Witches, fight for Oz, save Kansas, and stop Dorothy once and for all.

Perfect for fans of Marissa Meyer’s Lunar Chronicles and Gregory Maguire’s Wicked, Danielle Paige delivers a dark, high-octane reimagining of L. Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

So...I feel almost like I missed a book or something. This referenced many things I had no recollection of. Not sure if that says more about my attention span or the memorability of the book. That being said, the developments back in Kansas felt...abrupt and unnatural. I don't feel Amy has shown enough evidence of maturing to warrant her behavior in Kansas. Also, the introduction of a newer, bigger, badder Big Bad sucked a lot of the interest out of this book. As long as the book focuses on the core characters that EVERYONE knows, it's pretty fun(ish). Digging into the other Oz stories that few people have read adds a bit of triviastic interest, but otherwise alienates those of us really only interested in the Common Knowledge Oz.

Okay, so, I like many, was under the assumption this was going to be the last book in the series. so when I finished it I just kind of say there like an idiot wondering what was going on. That was no way to end a series! Way too much still had to happen! So I Googled it and found out a fourth book was announced. Alright, cool, that explained the ending then. I did feel the book was rushed, like a lot of other fans, but I did enjoy it and I remember how much I really liked Dorothy Must Die, so for those reasons I will be giving the fourth book a shot. I know Danielle is a great writer and I think she'll prove herself again with this last (?) book in the series. Overall though I give this story 4 out of 5 stars because lack of character development, rushed story line, and overall wondering what some of this stuff had to do with the whole plot. I would recommend this book though, absolutely.

This great idea of a tale has warped into this never ending tale of Amy Gum and a band of misfits battling the evil doers of Oz.

I am so disappointed in this book that I’m adjusting my previous favorable recommendations for the first two because I don’t want anyone else to suffer through this ridiculous third book.I don’t want to give anything away in case someone does want to read this book so I will go over all the issues I had with this book without giving anything way. It’s clear that this series wasn’t intended to be this many books. Each successive books has a thinner plot and because of this nothing really happens in the book. In addition, each book has been shorter than the previous one and now there is going to be a fourth. Speaking of four books, many of the issues I has with this book are directly linked to this fourth book. Originally, this was supposed to be a trilogy and so the introduction of a new villain didn’t make sense at the time. The ending was a mess too and left me questioning if there would be a fourth. And while it makes sense now and is more forgivable I still believe that this series did not need to be this many books. Finally, this book has the big battle between Dorothy and Amy and it is completely underwhelming. The Dorothy storyline comes to an abrupt end and Amy had nothing to do with it. I waited three books for this. The majority, if not all, of the storyline was Amy training and becoming better at using magic and killing Dorothy’s followers in order to weaken her. None of that mattered. The outcome would have been the same with or without Amy.Of course there are other issues like Amy being completely unlikable and a boring romance angle but in a book filled with so much “wrongness” it doesn’t even matter. I would not recommend this book.

I love this series so much! I thought it was pretty cool that a large part of this book takes place back in Kansas where Amy Gumm is on the search for Dorothy's silver shoes. The last couple of chapters left me reeling! With what happened, I am super curious as to what is going to happen in the last book of the series!

I can't believe I am reading this stuff. The writing is fine, the content is melodramatic, part ooey gooey love story part teen drama part super hero epic. But it's Oz and I've been sucked in. Plus, the library is closed so I am stuck with what I've got. Good escapism during a pandemic.
