Great rhyme, AND story.
Rating: 4A counting story in the pattern of Twelve Days before Christmas. Counts up and then down. Interesting illustrations.
Rating: 3Mice get ready for a very fancy party, but everyone goes dashing for cover when a very unexpected guest crashes! Can the Mousequerade Ball withstand a cat's arrival??This was a nice counting book, with more of a storyline than many others. It was a bit unusual in going for a masquerade theme, but it is an enriching read with great vocabulary words for young readers like "puff," "whisk," "grand," and "splendid." I could see this being a good readaloud for preschool or younger elementary classrooms. The illustrations complement the text nicely, and I love that the cat is just there to dance, providing a subtle message about accepting others and not assuming the worst in everyone.
