Introduction

• This book contains the 200 most frequently used Finnish words with many example sentences each.

• Every example sentence is beginner level. As a general rule, they are ordered from easiest to hardest.

• Sometimes an example sentence will be repeated, but with an alternate translation—so you can look at the same sentence but from a different angle.

• Every sentence should be correct. Just like every translation. If you happen to find a mistake, report it to me and I’ll fix it immediately.

How to Use This Book

1. Pick a word.

2. Read the example sentences: try to guess their meaning and pronunciation.

3. Check the translations to see if you got the meaning right.

4. Type the example sentences into Google Translate, then click the Listen button, to see if you got the pronunciation right. Repeat it out loud, trying to mimic the pronunciation that you just heard.

Some less popular languages do not have a Listen button on Google Translate. If your pronunciation is already good, skip step 4. In the end of this book, there is an appendix with study hints.
