About this ebook
About the Book
Never before have youth had so much potential for greatness while at the same time carrying the biggest capacity to be miserable. The world is in a period of exponential growth but also a period of tremendous unhappiness. The people most affected are our youth who live in a constant stream of stress. 94% of youth admit to feeling overwhelmed in their lives. The average teen is so listless that he spends nine hours a day on social media. 20% of youth admit to feeling depressed and seriously considering suicide. There have been many initiatives to solve these problems and many more but there seems to be little change. No one has written a book for youth on how to stave off these problems and attain their true potential. At last, such a book has been written by a youth for youth.
In Emerson For The Digital Generation: Secrets Of Unparalleled Success and Happiness From The Timeless Wisdom Of Ralph Waldo Emerson, author Anand Satheesh presents to youth the secrets of greatness and fulfillment as seen through the eyes of Ralph Waldo Emerson, one of the greatest philosophers who ever lived. With penetrating insights and examples, Anand presents ten of Emerson’s greatest essays in the context of the modern world while retaining their eternal wisdom. The essays in this book such as Self Reliance and Compensation are among the greatest writings of any age. These contemporary commentaries on Emerson’s essays show youth the secrets of self-reliance, prudence, friendship and character; principles that will make their lives truly extraordinary.

"Emerson is one of those rare great philosophers who have a solution for the human predicament. His classic essays on Self Reliance and Compensation are guides to living a more joyous life and finding again the freedom we felt in our youth. Anand does a great job of suggesting to youth that you do not have to re-discover this freedom if you do not give it away in the first place!
Simply written but the ideas are profound. And the quotes at the end of the pages are superb."
Srikumar Rao, TED speaker and author of Happiness at Work.

Emerson was deeply influenced by the wisdom traditions of the East, especially by the Vedantic philosophy of India. The ancient wisdom of India found new and vital expression through the pen of the American sage. And now, the young author, Anand, whose own heritage is a wonderful synthesis of the best of both India and America, has presented this inspiring collection of Emerson’s thoughts to the children of the world."

WHY I WROTE THIS BOOK?
I once asked my father who inspired him the most. His choice was Ralph Waldo Emerson because of his profound understanding of eastern and western philosophy and how he weaved them together. I read Emerson’s essays myself and found that they inspired me as well. So with some guiding words from my father I started writing the book. During this time I began to feel his message become integrated into my life. Following these essays have made my life more fulfilling and filled with happiness. I hope this book brings the same effect to you.
I wrote until about halfway and then I stopped for a few months but then I was bedridden with a broken toe. My mom said this was an opportune moment to continue with my book and so I completed it. In this book you will find summaries for ten of Emerson’s essays that I found inspiring and you will learn the power of concepts such as Self Reliance and Compensation. The knowledge within this book, if applied to your own life will make your life more meaningful and fulfilling. Writing this book was an amazing process and I hope that you will have as much fun reading it as I had making it. Thank you to my parents for all their support and help. Finally, I thank God for giving us the genius of Emerson.

Sometimes, the stories we hear about adolescence feature lost youth in a foggy cloud of poor choices and attitude. Sometimes, teenagers spend an impressive amount of time playing video games, updating Facebook and trying to fit into a culture of cool as they navigate their way through life. And sometimes, you meet teenagers with an extraordinary sense of self and maturity, and you wonder how they will change the world. Anand is one of those teenagers.
