Secrets of the Diet Codes

About this ebook
Secrets of the Diet Codes unveils the true diet humans should follow. These secrets have eluded us for decades, yet lie hidden in the chemistry of our metabolism and anatomy. With the ever-increasing emphasis on technology, diets have become more complicated and unhealthy. Our digestive systems have been exposed to other feeding standards for eons and have acquired their own sense of what we should eat. It should be our mission to work that out. We have done so for many other species; one would expect to find the same standard of excellence to be applied to humans. But the search to find this elusive diet is clouded by a resistance as though its arrival will sound the bell for many unsubstantiated common practices and economical conflicts of interest.

Secrets of the Diet Codes - Marius Theron
Perhaps the sentiments contained in the following pages, are not YET sufficiently fashionable to procure them general favour; a long habit of not thinking a thing WRONG, gives it a superficial appearance of being RIGHT, and raises at first a formidable outcry in defence of custom. But the tumult soon subsides. Time makes more converts than reason.

My diet journey started 21 years ago. It brought me to the point of despair to see how people would diligently follow the wrong diet under the supervision of professionals.
These diets were wrong in many ways. To this day, its ingredients, timing and frequencies are totally unrelated to human anatomy and physiology design standards. Most diet platforms amongst animals are classified by their anatomical and physiological design, examples are herbivores, omnivores or carnivores – but the same does not apply to humans.
Medical universities allocate only 1-2% of their curriculum on formal nutrition training for pre-med students.
The dark reality is that 60-80% of the diagnoses they face in practice are directly or indirectly related to diets gone wrong. The top 10 prescription and revenue earning drugs makes a grim picture.
Ironically, only carnivores become diabetic, develop cancers and atherosclerosis when they feed on high-frequency carbohydrate diets, as do humans.
Go figure.

I dedicate this book to Lucy who never gave up trusting and encouraging me along a journey of writing a book on a highly controversial subject.
To Gerhard and all my friends and family whose enthusiasm and support gave me the freedom that kept me going through the many challenges that faced me in writing this book.
To my Mom and my children Mareli, Antonique and Chrizaan whose patience and keen spirits made the challenge bearable when the going got tough.
To Suzette who provided the spark that started my journey to write this book.
To all those pioneers who faced the wrath of the conventional dieting and health-care community for their courage to publish conflicting and challenging knowledge they gained in their endeavours.
To those who suffered the devastating consequences of a diet strategy gone wrong beyond imagination. May their sacrifice serve as a beacon to those that follow in their wake.
Preface
I can still see my five-year-old’s excited little face as she looked at me from the back seat of the Piper Cherokee on our approach to the Mabula Game Lodge airstrip. Her mind was far from flying the airways of the African Bushveld, and she chatted away about what she expected to find once we touched down. Her coat pockets were stuffed with oranges we had brought along as quick-energy supplements for the subject of her excited chatter: eight orphaned elephant calves translocated from Zimbabwe to this game-farming community in the Waterberg Mountains.
The calves became the focus of a massive rescue and rehabilitation incentive after they had been orphaned following the slaughter of their herd during a culling operation in Zimbabwe. After being transported 500 km into South Africa, they were delivered into a cosy farm shed close to the Lodge, but also straight into the jaws of a winter storm.
I first learned of the young elephants’ existence when their distressed new owner called me. He told me that six of the calves required emergency medical care: they were completely comatose and struggling to breathe. The situation called for a high alert. Elephants did not feature on my daily patient list; in fact, I’d never treated one before.
It’s hardly surprising that the young elephants were suffering the effects of prolonged physical and psychological trauma of the preceding weeks: fear and the distress of fleeing from the attack that had killed their mothers; little nourishment for days; and the shock of capture and exhaustion of a prolonged road trip, all topped up with a cold snap. The impression one got from these babies was that they had ‘hit the wall’ – something typically seen during endurance marathons, when athletes run themselves into a hypoglycaemic catastrophe. Low blood sugar spells low oxygen transfer.
The basics of their history and symptoms dictated that capture stress and the long trip, combined with severe cold, had sapped their blood sugar and energy reserves. My best recourse was to phone the Pretoria Zoological Gardens and speak to Dr Hyme Ebedes, an expert in the capture and care of wild animals. He quickly confirmed a diagnosis of hypoglycaemia and gave me a complete rundown of the treatment protocol, including aftercare suggestions, such as offering them oranges or other fruit and keeping them indoors, warm and dry. The basics were not too different from the care of ordinary domesticated species, and I was well equipped to deal with the situation. Moreover, I stocked most of the medicine required in the dispensary of my veterinary practice – which also happened to be on an orange farm called Sweet Holme, renowned for its sweet oranges.
When will they stop hurting so badly?
The question came from my little blond-haired, blue-eyed angel, Mareli. As she walked into the shed, a few calves picked up their trunks, sniffing the sweetness of the oranges – the first sign of life returning as the dextrose drips I had administered, took effect. Soon, their breathing and blinking reflexes would stabilise and their heart arrhythmia subside, until finally they could stand upright. Once their swallowing reflex returned, I allowed Mareli to offer the babies some orange cubes, and they picked eagerly at this treat, greedily stuffing it into their mouths.
The impression I was left with that day was the young elephants’ disaster-triangle complex of hypothermia, hypoglycaemia and hypoxia crisis. Something else made an impression on me too, namely hunger.
Its symptom profile among humans is called the ‘jitters’ – was not that dissimilar to what I saw in these calves.
There is a deeply held belief that humans are superior to animals. Yet for all our supposed superiority, we struggle so much more with diet-related life-threatening diseases than animals!
The secrets are revealed by exploring human biochemical behaviour and the effects certain nutrient packs have on our health status. The diet codes are messages discovered in the journey through human dietary history. From Palaeolithic evidence to the Sumerian dynasty, to the most recent research and statistical data available. These messages emanate from our own anatomy and physiology, from the foods we eat, entrenched economics, the diseases we suffer, social behaviour, recreational and environmental domains. Each code sends its own messages about a healthy diet for humans, leaving no room for assumptions where proper science dictates otherwise.
The Secrets of the Diet Codes debunks distorted perceptions and provides a practical and reasoned answer to what our diet should look like. The book presents a wide view of the human feeding platform and shows that the differences that do exist among humans may not be so significant after all. The codes find their way into our menus through many facets. It provides you with the complete-diet package, it also makes strong reference of what one should not eat. You may find your beloved breakfast fading into obscurity since its justification does not exhibit scientific facts, but fiction. Not only will the peace of mind you attain through this new lifestyle be very rewarding, but the dimensions of cognisance of your life’s purpose will also acquire more meaningful stature.
Some of these secrets may seem familiar to you, while others may be a surprise. An apple a day bears no health advantage that you cannot find somewhere else, rather consider No carbs no cry, low fat you die
. The status of the so-called most important meal of the day is downgraded to the nth scale of commercial prejudice and professional deceit, so much so that the top 10 most diagnosed diseases are directly associated with these dietary malpractices. We will mourn the unavoidable loss of old favourites that we got to know through our dietary journey over the years.
We single ourselves out by saying that we are all different from one another, only to end up with the same depression, immune disasters, indigestion, heart failure and cancer – not to mention complexes like obesity and diabetes. So, get off your ‘unique’ horse and follow a diet lifestyle that will let your uniqueness thrive. The challenge in this high-tech era is to escape a Ponzi-style health system and resist the temptations thrown at us by the healthcare and food industry and insurance brokers.
A new dietary era has come to pass. As you read through this book, you will encounter the complete spectrum of diet-related strategies required for your lifestyle, no matter where you live, your age, your gender, how active you are or your current health status. Well, almost. The book’s message is simplistic and in harmony with your body, it is uncomplicated and not in conflict with your metabolism. This is what you’ve been looking for, but is there still enough time left to benefit from this lifestyle? Your body will have a better chance of performing or recovering to its natural state than by still being exposed to the diets that caused the failures. Some of the information contained in this book may sound dangerous, but the ‘truth’, sold to you under the cloak of safety and trust, is the real danger you should look out for.
The top 10 revenue earners in the prescription-medication field leave little room for the health fraternity to justify their current diet strategy to benefit consumers’ health. Self-interest and profiteering by deceit are common practice and sensationalist arrogance is the order of the day. Stomach ulcers and statin medication may stand as a testament to ‘stealth healthcare’. Recognition of a significant but unpopular scientifically researched discovery was delayed by 20 years to be awarded the Nobel Prize. Had it been bestowed much quicker, the table would have been wiped clean of antacid script medications, destroying a huge pharmaceutical revenue earner in the process and saving thousands of lives and billions of dollars. The inverse applies to cholesterol and statin research results, which continues to sustain a massive pharmaceutical revenue source.
It may seem difficult to find a diet standard that is incorruptible, not too rigid and accommodates all genders, ages, lifestyles, geographic locations and activities, and provides a safe and healthy body for all of its participants.
Will YOU be able to recognise that diet when it finds you?
About the author
After a 12-year stint in a veterinary private practice in the Waterberg Mountains of the Limpopo province in South Africa, Dr Marius Theron joined a cosmetic and health lifestyle business his parents had started 20 years prior. He was involved with the manufacturing and logistics of their cosmetic, slimming and micronutrient supplement ranges. His knowledge of nutrition, basic functional anatomy and physiology came in handy since humans aren’t that far removed from comparable animal systems. Being involved in
