Saturday – Day 1

The cave was dark, apart from the small spurts of flame I kept breathing out into my nest. Alice had wanted to come inside and watch, but I wouldn't let her. I felt bad about it, of course, but this was really something that was just for me.

'I'm sorry' I'd said. 'It's a dragon thing. You understand, right?'

'I suppose' she said. 'Keep us updated, though, right? Don't go AWOL on me.'

'Of course not.' With that, I'd run off to my cave, the one I'd found the first day I'd appeared in the Overworld, and waited for my egg to finally hatch.

Alice and I had gone through an awful lot for that egg. It had been kidnapped by the Order of Dragons when I was still living in the End, and we'd gone on an adventure to find them and take them down. We'd accidentally burned down their stronghold, and we'd warned them off, but they'd be back. People like them always came back.

For now though, that didn't matter. The egg was hatching, and I was ready for it.

A tiny claw popped out of the black and purple shell. It wiggled around a bit, as if testing whether it was safe to emerge, and then drew back in. A moment later, the claw had punched through another part of the egg. It did this again and again, systematically breaking the shell apart and eventually, letting a tiny dragon tumble out and into the nest.

The dragon was a tiny version of me, relatively speaking. I knew that the humans would find it to be still rather large for their liking, and I knew that it'd only get bigger. The dragon struggled to its feet, and then stumbled as it made its first steps. I held out a claw to it, and it held on with its mouth as it got back its feet. This time, it managed to stay standing, and even took a couple of steps. Then, it celebrated by sneezing fire. I stamped out the small blaze that the sneeze had caused, and smiled.

'I'll call you Erisdar' I said.

Once Erisdar had settled in, I went back to the village to find Alice. She was in her tree house, sorting through the chests we'd rescued from the Order stronghold. Her house was now full of enormous dragon eggs, and she was looking rather bewildered.

I poked my head in through
