Lyrics and Poems: Gianluca Zanna - Songwriter, Poet, Rifleman, Freedom Activist
()
About this ebook
Many starting life as poems, he has written, published, and produced over 100 songs, ranging from romantic to political to inspirational with musical styles as diverse as folk, rock and techno. His lyrics are a reflection of the man himself: full of passion, dreams, and honesty--at times brutal, but always with the hope of contributing to a better future for freedom and the rights of the individual.
Gianluca Zanna began writing poetry as a child, sitting on his rooftop, facing the harbour of Anzio, watching the sun sink into the Adriatic sea. He carried his poetry notebook with him to boarding school in Rome and continued to fill it with his emotions while traveling around the world, looking for the "island of freedom." To Gianluca, poetry is an expression of his soul, like a natural instinct to breathe, and his poetry freezes those moments in time.
Through reading these lyrics and poems, you will enter the intimacy of a man's pure thoughts and passions, and gain a perspective of what it is to live in another person's mind. You will discover a refreshing simplicity and authenticity that always speaks from love about love, whether of self, of a lover, of freedom, or of these United States of America.
Zanna chose rural Arizona as his home where he enjoys life, shooting his guns, continuing to write songs and books, ultimately creating his own island of freedom surrounded by the wilderness of the South West.

Intro
I believe that our present is the synthesis of our past. In life, like in chemical, nothing gets destroyed, but it all transforms into something new that is the result of our former experiences, successes, and failures.
My name is Gianluca Zanna. I was born Italian, but ever since I was a young boy, I have been dreaming of one day becoming an American. When I was halfway along my life’s path at thirty years old, my prayers finally were answered.
I am sharing my story through this humble book that is a summary of my emotional journey expressed in some of my lyrics and poems that I wrote spanning over four decades of life. In the first section, you will find all the lyrics of all the songs I have written, produced, and published up until May 2015. I will spare you the unpublished ones, since they are not available to the public, and of course, you will not find my several instrumental tracks since they have no lyrics.
In the second section, you will find some of my poems. Many of them were written even before I became an American.
In the third section, you will find some of my phrases and thoughts that represent my ideals, philosophy, politics, and view of life. I warn you: I talk from the heart, and sometimes I use language that can be seen as offensive. Some of my topics could be deemed illegal in countries where there is no freedom of speech that we have here in the United States, guaranteed by the First Amendment of our Constitution. Ciao,

PS: I intentionally did not use any professional editor to review this book.
I wanted to show who I really am, with all my limitations. I hope you will forgive

Biography
In this existence, I have been blessed to have lived two lives: one as an Italian, one as an American. I was given the opportunity to have a second chance to learn from my mistakes and fulfill my dreams as human being.
Ever since I was a child, I knew what I wanted to be, where I wanted to live, and what I wanted to do—sort of.
With my mother in Anzio
I wanted to be an American, I wanted to write songs and poems, and I wanted to create my business and live free (or at least try my best). I remember that when I was still a young boy, some of my friends considered me different.
I am not saying that I was special or gifted, but, yes, I was different. I still remember like it was yesterday; when I was nine years old, I used to spend days alone on top of a roof watching the sea of Anzio and writing poems. Normally at that age, little boys don’t do that, but I was fine and happy in my own little world made of emotions, words, and lyrics. I felt that only when I was alone I was able to open the gate of my soul and reach that inner part of me that normally I could not hear when I was surrounded by the too many distractions of life. When I was in the boarding school in Rome, instead of playing soccer with my friends, I used to write the lyrics of my first songs while I was dreaming of one day coming to America. Like most young people, I had to go through my journey to find out who I really was and how to reach my final destination.
In my early 20s as windsurf instructor traveling around the world
It was not easy; sometimes it was a little extreme, but at the end, with God’s help and my mother support, I was able to find my way. I have lived with passion.
I never wanted to have regrets for things not done because of the fear of failure. Yes, I made mistakes, but I have tried to learn from them. To better understand my lyrics and my poems, I feel that I should also share my beliefs, who I am, and who I have been. Here is my life in a few words.
If you are bored, just skip it and go to the next chapter.
I was born in Rome, Italy, and raised in the seacoast city of Anzio, one of the most pivotal places in the outcome of World War II. There, I spent much time with my maternal grandfather, who would often playfully sing to me about Arizona (Il Tango delle Capinere), where, as a young boy, I never imagined I would one day make my home.
My Grandfather Leoni Bruno
Living near the sea, I learned love for freedom and wide open places, windsurfing and swimming.
During WWII, my family was under German occupation, and they were liberated by American soldiers, so I was raised with respect and admiration for the American people (listen to my song, Thank You America
).
Since high school, I have been a supporter of America despite the communist party’s popularity in Italy.
