It’s Kind of a Funny Story
by Ned Vizzini was first published in 2006. The author is said to have said that he was inspired to write this book after his brief hospitalization owing to depression in the month of November, 2004.
It proved to be a highly successful book and it got recognized as the Best Book for Young Adults from the American Library Association in 2007. The novel was adapted into a movie that was released in the month of October 2010.
Most critics unanimously agree that the account presented by the author in this novel seems real and credible.
Since the story is based on the author’s own experiences in a hospital, there is no second opinion about the authenticity of the narrative. During an interview, the author admitted that the book was based on his real life and more than eighty-five percent of the story is true.
Craig, the central character, according to the author, is put in adult psychiatric because the author had actually spent a brief period of time in adult psychiatric, so it was easy for him to describe the place, things, and the events.
The author had spent five days in a psychiatric hospital, and during that period he got inspired to put his experiences into writing.
The novel was highly acclaimed and even the New York Times described that It’s a Kind of a Funny Story
