About this ebook
Joy Layton, an advertising executive, was prepared to count down the days to Christmas. Her only job would be to watch the figures increase for the companies she’d prepared “Black Friday” ads. Those plans changed when she was presented with the task of preparing a full ad for a well-known bridal gown designer, by Christmas Eve.
Joel Kahn, photographer, was never big on Christmas and usually traveled during the holiday. He was relieved he didn’t make plans this year when his boss sprung on him the urgent photo shoot. When he arrived at the agency, he was surprised to see Joy, his college sweetheart.
What will happen when the two cross paths, again?

Chapter One
Cara, I’m so happy to see you,
Joy beamed.
I’m glad I was able to get a short shift,
Cara responded.
I know work gets busy for you this time of year.
The roll of her cousin’s eyes let Joy know she agreed. Joy was glad things would begin to slow down for her since most of the vendors she worked with had their adverting for the holidays done months in advance. She was happy to spend time with her family that filled her parents’ house.
I don’t even want to think about the next few months,
Cara exclaimed.
I do understand,
Joy acknowledged.
So how are you and Kevin doing?
Cara looked into her cousin’s eyes.
That was a name she’d been trying to avoid all day. She’d given the same answer to all of her family members that had asked.
We are doing great he’s spending Thanksgiving with his family.
I really expected him to have a ring on that finger by now,
Cara pointed to her hand.
I pray not,
Joy’s father exclaimed.
Daddy!
Joy shouted.
Well I’m just saying, I don’t think he’s right for you,
he kissed Joy on her forehead.
No one is ever right for us, if you let our Dad’s tell it,
Cara assured.
That’s the last thing she wanted to hear from her Dad. She was hopeful after all these years that Kevin would have worn on him. It’d been seven years and she wished she could change how her entire family felt about him. God knows that Kevin was not making it easy for people to love him. He’d always find a way to weasel his way out of attending her family events. She was always left holding the bag of excuses.
So many different occasions were missed because of work or some other excuse. Not even sure what was the truth or what a stretch of the truth he cared to share. She’d come to notice that most holidays she didn’t get to spend with him. They would celebrate before or after. It’s the same thing as long as we’re together. He had her convinced that was all that mattered. She was soon realizing that part time love from him was not enough. She was there when it was convenient for him. Maybe her Dad was right.
I’m sorry, I didn’t realize Uncle Tim was in ear shot,
Cara gave her and a squeeze.
It’s ok, I’m going to get some dessert,
Joy hugged her cousin.
Grabbing a plate for the end of the table Joy eyed all the delicious goodness that was displayed before her. She decided that she would not worry about Kevin for the remainder of her weekend. Placing a serving of sweet potato cheese cake onto her plate to join the slice of pound cake, she continued to add one of each of Cara’s holiday cookies. Any luck and she’d wake from her sugar coma on Sunday afternoon just in time for her to return home.

Good morning,
Betsy exclaimed.
Good morning,
Joy responded.
How was your weekend with Kevin and the family?
Betsy asked lower herself in the chair facing Joy.
With my family…was great,
Joy said giving her assistant the side eye.
Again?
Betsy shouted.
Shhh not so loud,
Joy whispered.
Her office was completely glass and Betsy left the door opened as always.
I’m sorry, but what excuse did he give this time?
Betsy leaned back folding her arms across her chest.
His brother was coming in from Japan and the entire family wanted to be together,
Joy hunched her shoulders.
Isn’t this the same brother he just spent a month with when his job sent him to Japan?
Yes that’s the one,
Joy acknowledged rocking her swivel chair.
Joy, you deserve so much better.
I know, Betsy, I know,
Joy pressed her temple with her left hand.
She could feel the tears stinging her eyes so she hoped to mask it from her assistant who had become her closest friend. She looked up when she heard movement from where Betsy was sitting. Her assistant eased the door closed and pressed the button to lower the privacy screen for the office.
Listen, Joy, I’m not here to lecture you or try to give you advice about your love life. I’m simply telling you what I see,
she leaned on the side of the desk.
What do you see?
Joy asked.
Sure she did not want to hear the answer to that question. Knowing Betsy as well as she did she’d get the answer whether she’d asked or not.
"I see a beautiful
