About this ebook

This book is not a rigid, detailed golf primer. I am not a golf guru. I am a every day golfer with exceptional clubhead speed. In this book, I take you through my golf journey on the way to rapid clubhead speed improvement at the age of 58.

Most golfer's clubhead speed declines with age. This does NOT have to be the case!
I will show you the method I used to improve my driver clubhead speed from 100 to121 mph in eight weeks. I eventually peaked at 130 mph at the age of 60.

Along the way on our journey we will shatter some myths about golf and long drive.

You do NOT need to be 6-3, 240 pounds to be World Long Drive Champion. Nor do you need to be Super Flexible , such as Jamie Sadlowski ( World Champion 2008, 2009).

You don't need to be in the physical condition of a certified personal trainer. You do NOT need to pore over a book with hordes of golf tips.

Why?

How do I know?

Because I am neither. Nor did I read book upon book to improve my clubhead speed. If you want detailed instruction about the golf swing, swing plane etc. This book is NOT for you!

If you want a straightforward, sound method to improve your clubhead speed-- you got the right guy !

What I am : A stubborn, determined old man. If you are stubborn and determined, you will dramatically improve your club head speed after reading this book.

This book is terrible. There isn't any actual advice on how to increase your swing speed. Also, the way he measured his swing speed is highly suspect. He admits in the book he has only played about 30 rounds of golf and he can't break 100 for score. He just loves to hit at the driving range...

Foreword

Why this book?

Over the years I have heard of many ways to increase clubhead speed. Some of the claims seemed outrageous and downright questionable . The few people that can be confirmed are professional tour golfers -- or golfers that compete in world long drive contests. This is something I did for a short time—compete in world long drive.

But you won’t find me under this name--- Namref H. Tims is my pen name. Am using it for a number of personal reasons. However, if you buy this book and MUST absolutely get acquainted with me , I will provide my email address at the end of this book.

But for now—

There are some people over the years that questioned my results. Be assured , everything about to be revealed in this book is true, although perhaps for some, hard to believe. I improved my clubhead speed with my driver from 100 to 121 mph in eight weeks at the age of 58. I peaked at 130 mph a year later.

Of course, with improved clubhead speed, I had corresponding increases in carry. My driver carry increased from 250 to 330 yards plus. Carry with my irons also increased accordingly. My three iron from 210 to 240 plus. My 7 iron from 160 to 190 plus. Three wood 230 to 280 plus. etc etc.

It is rewarding for me to help a fellow golfer. Most amateur golfers could use some extra clubhead speed. If I achieved this at age 58, I dare say , you can as well.

Chapter 1 My Introduction To Golf

They say : Drive for Show and Putt for Dough

But I say :

"If Your Drive is Jive

For Show

Your Putt will be

Play-Doh ! "

( All Puns For Fun and Definitely Intended!)

My earliest memory of golf was in 1961. I was in the tenth grade. Over the PA system they announced tryouts for the golf team. In our school ( predominantly African American) football was huge. Following football, was basketball. Other sports of interest were tennis, archery and swimming.

The students knew the football and basketball players by name. No one knew who was on the golf team!

So for years I never thought much about golf.

Somehow my curiosity was aroused while watching Jack Nicklaus on TV. I thought golf was a silly , boring game. How was it fun ,exciting or challenging to chase a little white ball around the country side?

But then – I saw a stat on TV—Jack Nicklaus made over $350, 000 playing professional golf in one year! In 1978 that was a huge amount of money.

Suddenly, golf was not the silly, boring game I thought it was. If I could chase that little white ball around the golf course and make that kind of money—golf was not so silly or boring anymore.

At that time , due to my arrogance and naivete, I was convinced I would destroy Jack Nicklaus on the golf course.

Further incentive-- my brother-in-law, former star football player claimed he tried out for the golf team.

So in 1978 I bought a set of golf clubs from Oshmann’s. I challenged my brother in law to a game of golf.

We both set out to play one afternoon at Memorial Golf Course in Houston, Texas.

A Huge Mistake.

Memorial is a long golf course, difficult , not easily accesible to a beginner golfer. But I had my ol’ pro brother- in – law, with high school experience.

I would soon learn that golfer’s are much like fishermen. They tend to exaggerate—except of course, yours truly!

To save money we did not rent a cart. We walked. Our golf balls were all over the place. My name could have been Tiger In The Woods.

But my brother in law was no better than me.

The golfers behind us in golf carts grew impatient. Beads of sweat broke out on my brother- in- law’s face. He wanted to quit. I wanted to get my money’s worth.

Eventually—we let the regular golfers play through.

It took us forever to finish. We started early afternoon, but did not finish until late that evening.

My recollection of that experience is : It was as if we were playing golf in a swamp!

We were certainly not playing golf on the course.

This was the first and only time I played golf with my brother- in- law.

After that from time to time , I would play a short nine hole course. It was much cheaper than Memorial and considerably less difficult.

Soon afterwards, I bought a book by Jack Nicklaus, "Golf My Way"—the man I was certain I would destroy on the golf course.

On one occasion while playing a round by myself, I hit a remarkable shot. I had been hitting the ball horribly. But not as poorly as before . On a short par five hole, I decided to try to put what I had learned in Jack’s book to some use.

About 220 yards from the hole, I chose a 3 iron. Little did I know a 3 iron was considered a difficult club to swing for most amateur golfers. The 3 iron for some reason , seemed to be the club of choice.

So I focused on coil , ala Jack Nicklaus. Did not think I had a chance to reach the green. The ball took off on a low trajectory, almost line drive. The wind caught the ball and carried it 30 yards beyond the green. I was in shock. I actually executed a great golf shot. When I arrived the ball was 30 yards beyond the green. It was on line but the strong wind carried it too far.

I chipped the ball across the green. I had absolutely no short game skills.

Overjoyed I might get a par, I mishit another two chips and settled for a triple bogey!

I was pissed !!

After this my golf tapered off. I could see that it would take a great deal of time to improve.

I was married. I had two small children. I did not want golf to interfere with my family time. At the time, I did not realize how golf had disrupted many marriages. I had not heard the phrase – Golf Widow.

Later , I read that Lee Trevino said his first marriage failed because of his pursuit of being in the golf elite. Later my dentist offered the same account of his first marriage failure—he was not even a scratch golfer or even close.

So in my early thirties, I had enough maturity and wisdom to relinquish my affair with "Lady Golf" !

But even with good intentions my first marriage did not succeed.

I did not however, immediately resume my affair with golf.

It was not until 1996, almost 20 years from the first time I played, did Lady Golf come calling.

One of my co workers told me about this great training aid called the Medicus.

I was single—why not?

I bought the Medicus and for about six months practiced diligently. I found an open field at a public park near my home. I would from time to time go to a nearby driving range. For the most part, I practiced at the park.

Mostly, I would practice with the Medicus 5 iron. I had an old set of golf clubs given to me by my girlfriend. In it was an old driver made of persimmon wood. I could only hit it about 235 yards—but with a fair degree of accuracy.

Again as in 20 years earlier—a harsh reality set in—

Golf is a Very Difficult game!

To add to this, I read an article on the Internet, how difficult golf is
