Dr Robert C Atkins was the first doctor to recommend low carb weight loss program in his book published in 1972, which was a bestseller. The word itself comes from his second name. Initially the weight loss program received numerous criticisms from other doctors due to the high levels of saturated fats consumed in the diet program. More than 20 researches were conducted in a period of close to 12 years, the research puts this program in a positive light; saturated fats were found to be harmless when following the Atkins diet.
