Walking Your Way to Fitness - Francis Rowe
Introduction
Exercise routines can be exhausting—by definition, they ought to be. Yet for people new to exercising, it isn’t just physical exhaustion but mental exhaustion, too. Trying to make sense of the nearly infinite amount of knowledge, programs, don't do's, should do's, and must do's is enough to cause even the most determined first-timer to back away. Fortunately, this book has come to your rescue by boiling down the mountain of advice into an easy to follow guide that will get you walking your way to fitness in no time.
It’s no secret that America has an obesity problem. It’s time for us to take a stand, to get active, and to lose the weight we’ve always promised ourselves we would lose.
This book will focus on making the transition from inactive to active an easy one. In order to motivate yourself, you must first understand not only the importance of exercise, but how your everyday life can actually be detrimental to your health. No one expects someone new to an exercise program to immediately run a marathon—instead, we’ll talk about minor lifestyle changes you can do before committing to a walking program. These changes will help you lose weight all by themselves, and also complement the programs in this book to help maximize the weight you can lose.
Watch a marathon race at your next opportunity; you’ll notice something immediately about each runner. They all move at difference paces, different speeds, and most still manage to cross the finish line. Later, we’ll take a look at the various forms of cardio exercise—walking, power walking, and running—and explain why running isn’t as beneficial as many marathoners want you to believe. We’ll also share an unbelievable story about a man who won a 545-mile
