    Introduction

    Insulin resistance is often associated with diabetes; however, the disease process is also associated with many other serious ailments such as heart disease, fatty liver, and reproductive abnormalities. It is a precursor to many of the associated diseases just mentioned, and a warning sign before type two diabetes develops. Therefore, if your doctor has diagnosed you with insulin resistance or you have any of the signs and symptoms, it's best that you start treating it with diet and exercise right away. This is a serious condition that is reversible.

    So what is this condition specifically?

    Let’s start with what insulin is and what its job is in your body. Insulin is a hormone that your pancreas secretes within its beta cells. The beta cells are spread all throughout the pancreas in clusters that are known as islets of Langerhans. The insulin that’s produced and released in your bloodstream travels to every area of your body. It’s an essential hormone that has more than just one action in your body. The most well-known action of insulin is to help regulate your metabolism by helping your body keep control of the carbohydrates, lipids, and proteins that are utilized. However, insulin is also imperative for the processing of glucose for energy and carries the glucose, along with vitamins, to different cells so that they can continue working and continually regrow.

    When your body’s cells are resistant to the effects of the insulin in your body that’s known as insulin resistance. The normal response to the insulin is reducing drastically, and, as a result, the body has to produce more insulin in order for it to have its effects. Therefore, the pancreas compensates by creating more insulin, and this resistance in the body continues to grow. Over time, the pancreas will wear out and the blood sugar levels in the body will rise.
