    Acknowledgements

I thank the City of New Westminster BC for appointing me Poet Laureate for two consecutive three year

terms (June 2010 – June 2016) and then bestowing upon me the title Poet Laureate Emerita, New

Westminster, in November 2016. It has indeed been my honour to serve.

During my term as Poet Laureate, I was commissioned to write many poems recording the history of the

city. I also took it upon myself to write more than just the commissioned poems and wrote poems

about the beginning history of New Westminster, the landscapes and landmarks of the city and her

    people.

And, during my term I founded Royal City Literary Arts Society; Poetry New Westminster; Poetry in the

Park; Poetic Justice; and Slam Central.

I thank my wonderful and talented friend Janet Kvammen for designing the cover of this book and for all

the photographs included in the book (pages 9; 31; 49; 71; 83); and I thank Tony Antonias, Jonathan

Cote, Chuck Puchmayr, Lorrie Williams, Betty McIntosh, Bill Harper and Wayne Wright for their support

during my term as Poet Laureate. I also thank Paul Minhas (the Heritage Grill) and Lavana La Brey

(Renaissance Bookstore) and the Arts Council New West for lending me their venues to promote poetry

    in New Westminster.

And, as always, I thank my mentor, Fred Cogswell for his encouragement and belief in my poetic abilities

back in the very early days in the 1970’s. Without his encouragement I may never have continued

writing poetry and this book may not have come to be. Thank-you Fred, wherever you are.
