About this ebook

Stress is not supposed to be a part of life, and especially not of one's work life. If you are someone who gets upset at the thought of going to your job on Monday morning, can't stand your boss, or are not "cut out" for the work you are doing, know that all that can change. Really! And I'll show you how in this little book.

The challenge, for many, is to overcome the momentum of doing what they have been doing for a number of years, and deciding this is not what they want to do any longer. Which requires clear awareness of one’s power, clarity about their true passions, and the belief that putting these together will open the door to new opportunities coming their way.

There will still be actions to take, but instead of trying hard to push a snowball uphill, those actions will come easily as a result of your commitment, enthusiasm, focus, and determination to create a new life for yourself.

Change must first occur in the inner you, before the outer you can come to really love your life. Let's take the inner journey, together, and create a new you as a result. That is, the you that is authentic, passionate about new opportunities and possibilities that live in the future now instead of past mistakes and should haves. A future you that lives fully in the moment, yet knows how to eliminate stress when it arises.

Why not start that journey today? It surely can’t hurt, and the upside potential is astounding!

    Introduction

Stress is not normal, especially at work. When we love what we do and are good at it, when the work aligns with our sense of values and provides service or assistance in some way to others, we are pretty much home free. Of course, if we can work with others who share our enthusiasm and work ethic and are as committed as we are to providing good work, it’s a home run. But what if that’s not the case? In my experience as a Career and Life Coach for the past 25 years, my calculations are that this is true for maybe 25% of those in the workforce. It’s not unusual for more and more individuals seeking work fulfillment out of the traditional path of working for an organization, which may even seem like paid labor compared to the freedom of self-employment. Yet self-employment is not a panacea either, because that can bring lots of headaches if one is not cut out for it, doesn’t know the ropes, or doesn’t have a plan that will work.

So, where to begin if you are not happy with your job, or maybe even out of work due to a layoff or downsizing? Is it possible to find work that is fulfilling, especially at middle age? You bet it is!

But before getting into the strategies that lead to stress-free work and a much more joyful life, I need to set the stage, and I will do it in this way:

First, it’s not work or the resulting paycheck that will provide us the security we want.

Second, I will address the overall picture or major premise that is the basis for my assertion that life and work are meant to be joyful.

Third, I will suggest the cause of stress in general and suggest a tool to reduce stress and stay one (or many) steps ahead of those demonic-like thoughts lurking beneath the surface that may even tell us we don’t deserve to enjoy work! (Did you ever hear your parent say that Work isn’t supposed to be something you like—because its only real purpose is to pay the bills.?)

Finally, I will state the case that when we are in alignment with who-we-truly-are and expressing our Life Purpose, stress can take a back seat to the joy of full self-expression. Additionally, I will offer exercises and strategies to discover your purpose and live your life as a great-spirited adventure. Sound good?

    Where is SECURITY in Life?

Have you, like so many of us, had those pangs of fear and feelings of insecurity about your life? Not to worry, honest. For the problem is not really about the economy, or trying to keep up with the neighbors, or to please the boss, or to find a job we actually like. Also, it’s not about learning the latest technology to keep up with the rest of the world, or how
