About this ebook

Tanki Bernard Letjoi is a police officer with the Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS). He has been in service for over twenty three years. His home is a village of Cana, situated in one of the most beautiful valleys ever found in the district of Berea. He is a holder of an Advanced Diploma in Project Management, a Bachelor of Arts in Human Behaviour, as well as a Master’s in Psychotherapy and Counselling, and has also undergone various trainings in HIV and Aids related spectra since 2004. Presently, he works at Katlehong Clinic, Maseru. As much as he enjoys reading, writing and farming, he also enjoys singing, and has recently started composing songs. He was born a Catholic and still one at heart; but he is now one of the followers of Father Petrus Johannes Masango, the Prophet, of St. John’s Apostolic Faith Mission.
It’s a collection of poems by a man who is spellbound by every particle of the universe: the man who questions nature to provoke reason ... who sees the Mountain Kingdom (Lesotho) as the source of aspiration and exploration.
The poems are for almost everyone, young and old alike, and have a cross-cultural appeal that can set a stage for every act.
For the Africans, the poems extend more in terms of borrowing from the coffers of the African natural terrain and general atmosphere.
The poems can also be informative and scholarly. For instance, they are rich with figures of speech and are varied in terms of style and type: be it odes, epics, sonnets, ballades, etc.
Outstandingly, the poems are full of inspiration and motivation, and can make one’s day when feeling down and only seeing a mirage of boredom.
The book transforms thoughts into words.

    About the Poet

    Acknowledgement

Special acknowledgement is made to a young lady, Maggie Magdalene Nomsa Nkofo, whose worth in regard to this book is outstanding and magnificent. With her support and scrupulous reading of some of the poems in this anthology, it made it possible for me to revise the titles of a few poems. Even some additional lines and corrections have been made due to her influence. Thank you lady, may God bless you and your family!

    1. Moment of Truth

    The glaring and odorous lies

That go perching on the shoulders of air

And squeezing through the trenches of a heart –

Still sailing across the channels of a mind,

All need be interred in the vault

    Of the hungry and scowling ghouls;

Where the corses upon the burning ghauts

Beguile the ghouls that seem like starvelings –

    The ones that always stare

At the cremation of our throttled truth –

    Our ghastly smiles

Only twisted when hatred knocks on the doors, of

Our only chests lorn in the valley of misery.

It’s over our own oases of open oils of understanding

To scour our latent kind of harmony

Which dwells deep in our hate-enslaved hearts:

The truth of ours should give a gloss,

Against the beams of the sunrise rays …

As the minds should be the citadels to warm our love

For Him! The Godhead beyond the firmament

To boast of His true-blue flock,

Which feeds on the pastures of loyalty –

    Having ceased to be the rumbustious scoundrels;

Always fleet-footed to chase some bits of peace

That beetle the overhead scintillating Milky Way,

And sending no signals of indifference

When the Great Bear cast out the light

    Upon their truth-covered thoughts –

For their love to grow wings,

    Much alike the plighted lovers!

    2. Love-Cum-Music

    A mere pied dove that steals my love;

That has got a stronghold to shield

My passion from spilling over –

For it can’t be picked, when it’s spilled!

The one who needs continuous turns

Of my love coils to coil around

Her heart that needs some sweet music

To go through her – around ‘n’ around!

You eagles, circle a concert overhead.

When I beat up the drums for her,

Just only do nothing at all,

Stare just in wonder – only stare …

She who but needs a daily rhythm –

That really for sure and always

Should rake through her corners of mind

To wake up her lonesome senses.

When music of the spheres erupts,

The organ strings that go jostling

With dropping mirth from the azure,

    Swinge ev’n a heart of a suckling –

When drops of bliss smear each spirit,

That yearns for such a joyous glee

Which rides and rides upon the sphere,

With no moment for it to flee!
