What a fabulously grizzly children's book. The most unlikable characters, Mr & Mrs Twit, get their comeuppance. The descriptions alone of these two are enough to make you feel sick. But that enables you to tolerate the vicious pranks they play on each other.

Nice short chapters with lots of illustrations. Thoroughly enjoyable read.

This is a book I read and loved as a child, and recently decided to re-read my Roald Dahl books. I have to say, I think I found The Twits funnier this time round! This is a very short children's book. The main characters are Mr and Mrs Twit, the monkey family and their friend the Roly-Poly bird. Here is the synopsis from Amazon.co.ukMr and Mrs Twit are extremely nasty, so the Muggle-Wump monkeys and the Roly-Poly bird hatch an ingenious plan to give them just the ghastly surprise they deserve!I just adored this book. Roald Dahl has such an amazing imagination. I wasn't sure what to expect as this is a predominantly children's book, but actually I was pleasantly surprised. Although I would not call this book particularly politically correct - having been written some years ago - the book had me laughing all the way through. Some of the nasty tricks Dahl thinks up are incredible. How he has come up with ideas is just beyond me!My favourite character was the Roly-Poly bird. He definitely had the the funniest one-liners, which were relevant even to our society today. It was these lines which make this an excellent book for adults as well as children. If you are looking for a book to enjoy with your children, or just a humorous light read, The Twits is certainly a good contender. There are some books we will just never be too old for!10/10

This book has two characters: Mr Twit and Mrs Twit. He is very hairy and he doesn't wash his hairy hair. So it's so dirty and there are some food that he eats everyday. And he is also so mean. For examples, while his wife is sleeping, he made her walking-stick longer and longer. And also, he put a frog in her bed and enjoyed her screaming.I didn't like what he was doing to her. I thought they were too mean.

THE TWITS is the story of a couple of, well, twits. Mr Twit is has a nasty and ugly beard and Mrs Twit could be recognized by her glass eye, who lived in a windowless house. They have four pet monkeys, and a huge dead tree where they catch the birds for their weekly bird pie. to past time, they love to play tricks on each other. And near the end all the animals (monkeys and birds)took all of the twits furniture and glued it to the roof and painted the floor to look like the ceiling. As the twits were coming home and were in the front yard when two birds carring paint brushes with Mr Twits super bird catching glue and painted the top of their heads. next they walked inside and thought they were upside down so they stood on their heads and cought the shrinks and died.the twits is a comedy to us because its funny but in shakespheres time it would have been a drama. I would reccomend this book to all other kids of the world because its funny.

So Muggle-Wump and his family are Africans. They've been captured by an English couple called Mr and Mrs Twit and reduced to the status of monkeys doing tricks in a cage. Mr and Mrs Twit aren't horrible just to Africans: they're horrible to everyone. Muggle-Wump and his family try to warn everyone but they can't speak English. Luckily the Roly-Poly Bird turns up and he's bilingual. Together they deliver justice. The greatest work of twentieth century anti-slavery literature.

The terrible husband and wife team, the Twits, are evil to everyone around them. By the end of the story they get their just desserts.

This is one of my favourite books from my childhood. Roald Dahl creates some truly awful people in the Twits, with perfect revenge from the Monkey family and the Rollypolly bird. Set off by the perfect illustrations by Quentin Blake.

The Twits is, in my opinion, a terrible book for children. In addition, it's a terrible book for adults. While I do enjoy (I think) the writings of Roal Dahl, I found this one to be a swing and a miss. The story covers two mean, nasty people: Mr. and Mrs. Twit. Dahl spends too much time introducing them and their idiosyncrasies, but only to the extent to make their pranks played on one another work. After that brief (but too long and sometimes too far) passage is over, the Twits could be any person who had a love/hate relationship with fowl (with one minor exception of foreshadowing, which fits into the end, which I didn't particularly enjoy either).I feel that in writing this, Dahl released his first draft, which to a discerning reader, has more warts than the family Twit. One chapter flows to the next, but the amalgamation that is the river does not take the reader anywhere, really. All in all, if you will read this story to your children (or let them read it on their own), read it first, so you don't get a nasty surprise when they emulate the Twits, who, while being portrayed as nasty people, may affect impressionable children. I myself will give this one a skip when it comes time to reading books to children.

This is yet another work of art by Roald Dahl. As always, this is another wonderful story that blurs the line between fantasy and reality in a way that leaves the reader feeling like anything is possible. One of my favorite parts of this story was the way that ugliness was portrayed. In The Twits, Dahl explains that true ugliness comes from constantly having bad thoughts about other people. Also, the descriptions of Mr. Twit really did make my stomach turn, which I found so cool. This would be a fun read aloud for my future classroom.

This book teaches kids why they shouldn't act like dickheads to each other and what sort of person you become if you do.

I was a little nervous about this book because I enjoyed it so much as a child and was worried it might not live up to expectations. However, I was not disappointed. As a grown up I like the message that Mr & Mrs Twit are not ugly because of their looks, though they are disgusting, but because of years of ugly thoughts which show on their faces. My four year old's favourite parts were the worm spagetti, and meeting Mugglewump and the Roly Poly Bird again (who also feature in The Enormous Crocodile).

Creative lessons in how to be awful to one another is just part of this lovely little book. Dahl spins a tale of justice for birds, boys, and monkeys against two horrid, hateful, dirty little freaks named The Twits in the wonderfully icky, twisted, and ultimately bully-busting romp.

The Twits is the story of two horrible, nasty individuals by the name of Mr. and Mrs. Twit. Their favorite occupation (besides being absolutely horrendous in increasingly vile ways to one another) is to torment their 4 trained monkeys and the birds which roost in their tree. As with most of Dahl's writing, there is a most satisfying conclusion at the end of this book which I just can't in good conscience spoil. Just know that Mr. Dahl certainly doesn't shrink from ghastly topics. ;-)

I literally sat and read this short book in one sitting. I know it is for children, but I enjoy Roald Dahl's work.

The Twits are a couple of nasty, mean, stinky people. They don't like anyone or each other. What they do like is playing tricks on each other, Bird Pie and making their monkey family, the Muggle-Wumps, stand on their heads. But the Muggle-Wumps are fed up with standing on their heads...they want out and away from the terrible Twits.

When the Roly-Poly Bird stops by on his vacation from Africa, things start to change. Head standing? Bird Pie? Playing tricks on people. All those things change...and in an interesting way!

Roald Dahl is in my opinion, one of the most creative authors for children's books. This has been one of my favorite books growing up because it is so out of the ordinary and hilariously ridiculous. It is about an old disgusting couple that like to play mean tricks on each other and how they get back on one another. In the end their miserable way of being is what causes their demise. This book is intended for 4-7 th graders and is a light read. I like the fact that it is broken up into segmented events that make up the whole story. This could be a good mentor text to help students break up their writing into small sections and to concentrate on character development. This book is also very visual with descriptive vocabulary and it can teach them how to add visualization to their work.

The Twits are a horrible couple who cage animals and kill birds each week for Bird Pie. But the smart monkeys and birds get together and play a trick on them that turns their world upside down!Great for kids (probably 2nd grade and older). The level of humor will be appreciated with children all the way up to middle school even. The very simple text should engage boys and children who can't or don't like to read for a long period of time. I love Dahl, and this is probably one of my favorite.
